Hey dude.. Well, I for one, don't code my skins.
I use the original CSS code and build it from my
experience with codes.

So if you want, just steal a skin! the simple way
to learn skinning and coding for it.

'Click' View - Page Source and steal that code.
Paste the code into another forum you got.

Admin CP - Style Sheets - Right click - Paste.

Remove little codes at the bottom until you can upload
correctly. Start finding links, such as maintitle.

Open another window, and paste link. Save Image.
And make a new image quite like it.

-------

Do this until you got all the CSS images you need.
This way you'll learn skinning for later.

-------

Click here and find all the names of the images

-------

Got all that? :P

Do not follow Melodical's advice, as that is strictly against the rules here.

Instead, read this:

On your board go to,
Admin CP >> Manage Style Sheets.
It is from that location that you'll find the CSS, which is what you'll need to edit to change the skin.

Much of skinning is a learn as you go experience, but the following generalized links will be of help to you as you learn:

If after attempting to manually edit the CSS via the Manage Style Sheets pages you decide that it is too complicated, there are alternative methods you can take. The links below are to Skin Generators located on our website that you can make a skin with.

Good luck and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to post here.

You are allowed to use and edit the default InvisionFree skin. I would not however try copying and editting someone else's CSS. Not only could you be punished for ripping, but with quite a lot of the new stuff you'd be terribly confused, as much of it isn't documented.

surely if you dont republish the skin or state it as your own work and meerly just pick apart the code and see how it's done it isn;t ripping. As long as he doesn't start his own skin from somone elses code is there anything wrong with studying how a better skinner skins?

There are a lot of coding techniques that are unique styles and achieve unique effects. Just like copying someone elses maintitle gradient and making one from scratch that looks similar after picking apart how they did the original would be considered ripping, the same applies to coding.

There are databases and descriptions of what each part of the CSS does, you do not need to look at another skinners CSS to find such things. If you want to experiment with premade CSS the IF Default skin is perfect. Simply put, there's no reason to decipher another skinner's code, it is provided and available for people to use on their forums, not as a learning source for other skinners - for that we have documentation, chat and support forums, and numerous other ways to learn.
