Everyday, eachday.... we carry our backpacks to school. Our backpacks can actually kill our back, and causes backpain. Chiropracters state that if a backpack weighs more than 15% of your weight, it may cause pain, and it's not good for your back. My brother conducted a science fair project on backpacks, and found that a majority of the students at my school have backpain, from backpacks. Also that a majority of them have backpacks that weigh over 15% of their bodyweight.

So should backpacks be banned? Bring in roller backpacks instead? Though some of you may say, "Oh, roller backpacks cause pain, people trip over them, or you can't roll them up on stairs." Well that's not my point. Or maybe schools should lessen school supplies, and textbooks, or provide a class set. What do you think, and what's your opinion? Discuss. :)

Backpacks are the easist way to transport all my school stuff. I can't think of an alternative that could do better. And roller backpacks don't work if you don't have a locker and you go to a school with a ton of stairs and students.

Well, not that I'm against homework, but we should be able to leave most of the stuff we have at school in our lockers. Especially in college, where the 15% of our body weight is exceeded much more often than usual.

What's the problem with roller back packs and lockers? :/

And your school can get elevator, it'll work. And my point isn't that as stated in the topic.

Did you read my entire post? Well I'll explain further, we don't have enough lockers, there are a ton of stairs and a ton of students, thus making it really hard to wheel around a roller backpack.

The noise roller bags make are horrible, I would be much happier carrying my back pack. Besides, how many books do you need per day exactly?

Differs per day. Usually I carry 2-3 textbooks.

@Extrusive: Yes I did. ;) And I don't care, as I stated in my topic that that's not the point of this topic, as "Oh, I have stairs, I have to bring all over." Well as I said before, ban backpacks, and maybe instead create a fundraiser for your school, and build elevators. Problem solved.

Here's an idea: don't put all of your books in your backpack. Use your locker.

My school district only allows injured students (broken leg) and any teacher to use our elevators.

Anyway, My backpack weighs over 30 pounds, sadly, it not 15%.

We don't have lockers at my school, which sucks. It would be nice to be able to leave your things at school and either be able to do it during study hall or only have to take a few papers home, but that would be hard to do....

The only locker that is available to me is out of my reach all day. I'm on the 3rd-2nd floor, while it's on the 1st floor.

Don't you have a passing period?

I have 5 different buildings I have to go to during my school day, yet I find time to go to my locker in between classes.
