That's what modeling is... to catch peoples attention and sell a product. |

Yes, but see I'm not talking about modeling itself, I'm talking as how people view you and others, and how modeling and promoting the "perfect" image can influence others. |

They've worked hard to make themselves look like what they do and people will pay attention to that. I myself prefer skinny girls as do most it appears, even though I am about 180 lbs. I've been called fat by some but then there are others who say I'm not fat and more medium. It all depends I guess on how you project yourself to others and what you believe about yourself. I want to work out a little more before trying out for football to improve my fat to muscle ratio but it's nothing major. Fatter girls seem to come off as desperate when they want attention which is a major turn away for most as they seem to lack any confidence. No matter what anyone says, you'll always get to know someones personality better if you're attracted to them. You'll want to get to know them more than another person you may not be attracted to because they catch your attention more. It's hard to judge someones personality when not attracted to them, isn't it? |

Personally, I don't care. If you're fat. Fine. If you're thin, fine. It's the way God made you (yes, I said God, if it bothers you, oh well), and you should learn to accept it. I'm normal. I'm more skinny than fat. I don't eat because I'm never hungry, but I am NOT anorexic. Quite frankly, the food at school taste like salted cardboard with **** a la mode for sauce. Healthy? No. Disgusting? You bet. It irks me when people I know say mean things behind people's backs about fatter people, it's mean and there's no point. |

See ^^ that's my point. And some people aren't able to push themselves as hard as others, due to slower metabolism, and it's not their fault if they aren't as capable as others. All I'm saying is that just because you might be fat doesn't mean that anything's wrong, just that some judgemental people tend to label you or something. |

Exactly. No one would like to marry someone that's 3000 pounds overweight, but if you're pencil thin, they fall all over said pencil? Why the double standard? Being too fat or too skinny is extreme, yet people run to someone that looks like a twig rather than the other option. Double standard? Yes. Point? No. And having these stick figures for Victoria's Secret etc. models don't help either. Unstable people say "I WANT TO LOOK LIKE THAT!!!111" when there are so many health implications with being that skinny (as in unnaturally skinny, as in throwing up) that it would be better to turn the tv off and be yourself, not Tyra Banks. |

I'm fat and I'm very very fit and I am a top player in most of the sports I play, which include football, baseball, and basketball. Both sides have an advantage in my opinion, if your big in football you make an excellent defensive line and if your skinny you make an excellent running back or so because you don't have as much weight to carry as us "fat" people when you run. |

The notion that all skinny people are healthy is ludicrous. You can be genetically predisposed to being skinny but that does not automatically mean that you're healthy. If you live a sedentary lifestyle, smoke or drink like crazy, your body is by no means a glowing billboard for healthiness. You can be skinny and still have a multitude of health problems. Yes, overweight people are more likely to develop conditions like arteriosclerosis because the fat deposits in the arteries and clogs them up and makes them less elastic. This means less blood flow to and from the heart. When the flow of blood is restricted to areas such as the brain, a stroke can happen. Your weight should be in proportion to your height. Check your BMI and body fat percentage. Some people who look relatively slim can have higher body fat percentages than those who look chunkier. In regards to magazines, come on, everything is retouched to the highest degree. Take a look at DeTouch.org. I don't approve entirely of these 'perfect' images because frankly, they cause a lot of problems in young girls. Although I was never and am not influenced by the extreme ways of losing weight, I've seen many of my peers struggle. Talk of anorexia and bulimia was common. I know of many people who eat no more than a slice of bread per day. The modelling industry is a superficial one and it plays on people's fantasies in order to earn profits. While I don't condone the negative messages that it sends to many, I still have to agree that slim (not stick-thin) people are more attractive. But this has no bearing on any of their other aspects. They can still be vapid as hell. Actually, a lot of them are because in their line of work, they're not required to do anything else other than look good (which they're already born with). So, why bother improving their minds? But then again, their shelf life in this industry is limited. |

I think its a shame that so much pressure is put on people to be a certain size in order to be accepted or whatever, I personally think that as long as your size, be it small or big, isn't afecting your health in a negative way and as long as you are happy in yourself then it matters not what others think. Beauty is skin deep, I know alot of people say that but it really is true.

Someone mentioned the fact that we see skinny as sexy and this comes from biology. Part of that is true. We look for "healthy" spouses but society also gives us the these models. The skinny look has not always been in and still in some cultures, they like "meatier" people more than skinny. But extremes are always bad. Being too heavy might take years from you. But throwing up your dinner and never enjoying a good meal is not pleasant either. It is the golden middle way. Exercise and have a good meal; best of both worlds  |
