What did you mean by the word 'Loss' than? Could you clarify so that I understand what you mean(t)?

As I said before, I couldn't think of a better word to use there. Thus I said

" For lack of a better word, I used loss." in a previous post.

Yes, but is it anywhere close to another word? I rather like this topic, and I would like to get as much out of it as possible, but if you'd rather not share than that's fine.

Then I'd rather not share. Not in this topic, anyway.

Well, He may not frown upon it, but he may not appreciate the way that people make it such a comercial affair. I think it's fine when people celebrate my birthday, but if they started stringing up lights and decorating trees I might say "I don't need this."

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong in Christmas, but that it has hardly anything to do with the short chapter that is written in the Bible. Also, a lot of people celebrate Christmas but do not see the reason behind it. The reason that Christ was born was to suffer and bleed and die, and if people don't see that than why celebrate the birth of the one that came to save us? I am questioning how trees and lights were tacked onto a holiday that was supposedly to celebrate the coming of the Savior. I see that this is turning into a religious debate, and I would rather not, and seeing as I am already starting to get a bit expressive of my own opinions and people don't seem to appreciate it, I shall back off with no hard feelings. *wishesthattheBrainJuiceforumwasback*

you arent God. i dont see the need for people to come to buildings to worship me either. but that doesnt mean people shouldnt do it for God.

im not saying the christmas trees and lights have anything to do with christmas. but neither should they.

i dont mean for you to take this harshly--its hard to express over the internet without sounding rude--but i think you are making a big deal out of a small one and its one of those things that isnt worth a giant debate. its christmas. even if it isnt a holiday for God(which i use it as anyway--i think he would like for christians to jump at opportunities to glorify him)--do you celebrate thanksgiving? valentines? neither has anything to do with God--do you think he frowns upon those too?

I personally can't find a place to stop in this debate, since I could go on about how people's personal opinions are worthless, but I can stop here. :haha:

your opinion is as worthless as mine. the whole point of debating is to justify them. :)

It offends me more when we try to passify every single group by changing everything around so that we don't offend. I mean, we can't even say someone is "poor" anymore. We have to specify that they have a "very low income shortage" or something politically stupid like that. If you're poor, and you're offended, Do Something About Your Situation. Seroiusly, get another job, get a better job. Get off your lazy butt and do something instead of taking from us working taxpayers. Don't punish us for your own sloth. I have full rights to say that, because I know someone, family, taking my money so that she can sit at home, send her two kids to granny, and do nothing but get slammed. My best friend was poor, but never saw it that way. his needs were met, even if he couldn't have the comforts/goods like many of us. So I'm more offended by people taking away my right to say "Merry Christmas" to my customers. I worked Walmart, I'm so grateful that they put Christmas back into their store vocab.

Oh, and I'm not pointing this poorness thing out against anyone who is poor and can't do anything about it (elderly and medicine vs food. it sickens me that people who can afford a lifestyle yet have more foodstamps than those who can hardly afford medicine on a fixed income). Those who are offended by being called "poor" are usually the one's who can do something about it.

I don't see why people wouldn't put up lights because they think it may offend people. It's bound to happen, so I don't see how it would help. If Christmas offends you, well, you might as well never go online, watch TV, or leave your house, because Christmas is inescapable. Well, at least, in America and a few other countries.

@catfriedrice: I completely agree. While some may view that point as rude, it's not. If you're poor, get a job. If you can't, go to a Soup Kitchen or a homeless shelter. If you have too much pride to go to one, well, look at yourself. You can't afford to have too much pride. =/ It's the brute and honest truth.

Perron, I understand what you are saying. But it is in no way disrespectful God nor Jesus. The majority of people who celebrate Christmas do understand the meaning of it. Sure trees and lights have nothing to do with it, but it simply decoration. To not celebrate something because people have added decorations and culture to it is simply silly. Easter is related to bunnies somehow, but why shouldn’t we have a good time with our family and decorate eggs and such. The real meaning of thanksgiving has been lost and is meaningless, but does that mean we shouldn’t celebrate it, when all that happens is we spend time with our family and have fun.

Don't even get me started. Christmas is extremely offending to myself, as well as my family. With all those Christian families walking around and being all Christly and what not. I despise the very core of the lowlife fool that is the Christmas celebrator.

Christmas rocks, case closed. ^_^

Not religious but it certainly doesn't offend me. I was never raised to believe in Christmas as a religious holiday, it was always just the season of giving and a time to be with friends and family and I suppose it still is.

I don't really see it as a negative thing that not everyone celebrates it as a Christian holiday. Maybe it's just the anthropologist in me but I see culture and religion as an ever changing thing - including related rituals. If you believe in it as a religious holiday, that's great, and if you don't that's great too.

As far as offending other people, it's my opinion that if it doesn't infringe on someone's rights then there's no problem.
