They are not exactly 'spy' cameras seeing as the sound would automatically make me know where they are.

While George Orwell's vision was rather terrifying, modern day technology doesn't settle my nerves much. I was thinking about this a while ago with all the latest satellite camera technology. We may not have cameras in every room bun\t it's still a bit scary.

I don't mean in a stalker way, I don't mean in a conspiracy way, I just mean in a human rights way.

It seems natural our society and government would take advantage of the new technology but I think we still need the paranoid citizens to step up and raise awareness about it.

I agree with Happy Camper. It's a bit scary to find out there could be cameras where ever you go, or here in the US, a team tapping into your phone and hearing your conversations. It always leaves me wondering if I'm being listened to right now, it's just weird.

A girl near me got arrested for talking about George Bush and making a joke about stabbing him via phone. Kind of makes you think how completely random that was that they tapped into the very phone call that said something like that. I think they listen in on us more than we think.

Oh, here's another reason to sort of be pissy over the issue.

A while ago a couple of my older friends were being inspected by the FBI for supposedly being terrorists. They're both liberal pacifists, both of unconventional background. I can't help but question them only picking out a black person and a lesbian in a crowd who have no questionable history and are as gentle as newborn puppies.

There was also a lot of **** about them not being read their rights and such.

Excuse me for my distrust in all of these genius resources.

this is completely terrible, and should be illegalized. It's an invasion of privacy for one thing, and it's just one step from them (cameras) inforcing laws. And this database, 3.8 million people. That's just f***ing insane! This is probably gonna start to spread to other western countries. Canada is basically the U.K.'s b****. And America's probably already got this under construction. It's an invasion of privacy and should be outlawed!

It's more than creepy, Destiny, it's a violation of our rights. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? We have a right to say what we feel, as long as we don't carry it out. How is anybody going to know how anybody else feels if we get arrested for a single joking comment?

Well, I think that it's okay as long as their in the public. If I found a camera or something in my house, I would be pissed. They have every right to put them in the public, which would actually help stop crime.

Because, joking comment or not, they have to take it seriously. If you joke about bombing an airport, the government won't be laughing, and somehow "I wasn't really gonna do it" doesn't quite cut it. When Dan Brown was doing research for his novel Digital Fortress, he had to research the NSA, and found it incredible how many attacks were stopped daily. I mean, come on, the NSA aren't going to care if you're talking about picking your nose over the phone... things only start to go wrong when you get yourself in trouble.

Expanse of technology =/= big brother as portrayed by Orwell

Anyone whom thinks otherwise hasn't read 1984.

It's still disconcerting.

The idea of having to carry a bio-id card on me is rediculous. I'm a person not a number.

In fact I'm quite riled by this and am printing it off to send in to state representatives along with a letter saying - this better not happen here. ^_^
