How far would you go to save your dog?

Well just goes toshow the following happened in my area.

This family, containing a dog, two daughters (13 and 16 yrs. old), wife. and a husband. Alright they were walking along the dam. Then the dog slipped in. They were like: :o and the mother jumped in the dam to save the dog. But of course the current took the dog and wife and the husband jumped in to save THEM but then the current was too strong and killed all three of them. Now it's just two orphan daughters. :\ Died... on christmas day... how sad it that...

thoughts? opinions? would you go that far to save your dog?

For me i wouldn't because if he fell down a dam he'd be dead anyways.

First of all, how the heck does a dog just "slip" in? They didn't know what a leash was? O_o

My heart goes out to the kids. I wish their parents could've been a little more smarter, seriously.

I think it is irrational and not a very smart act, but I think if I were on that situation, I would have done the same. I have two dogs and I love them c_:)

Gosh...I'm sorry for those kids... :(

I would do the same thing, probably...but we have our dogs on leashes whenever they're out of the house and never take them on walks. But, they get plenty of exercise in the backyard. I would be so upset if my dogs died. I love them so much.

I would go far. I don't think they knew they would be swept by the current, I think they just thought they could grab the dog and get out.

They didn't have much time to think, it must have happened in a split second and before they knew it, they were dying. :/

My heart goes out to their daughters. :(

When someone/something you love is in danger people tend to not think very clearly. I don't think I'd jump in after the dog (most dogs are just as strong if not stronger swimmers than humans anyways), but it's tough to say. There's a lot of stories like this with children falling in and parents diving in and drowning or hitting their head because it was shallower than they thought, etc. People just don't think clearly in these situations so I don't really think it's a sign of intelligence so much as a very sad rash decision.

Those poor kids :(

That is very well said, All i can really say is they must have loved the dog a lot, Dogs can be replaced but parents can't, I feel very sorry for the two kids.

Thats really sad and my heart goes out to the kids. I'd like to know how the dog just "slipped" in, however I understand why the second parent jumped in. Not to save the dog, but a partner they loved dearly. As for jumping in for the dog, I guess they shared a very close bond, one that I guess would be hard for us to understand. Even in split second decisions the brain is capable of making a rational judgment. Sometimes they seem rational to one and irrational to another. :/
