I'm just giving my two cents.
I don't think he should have been hanged [hung?].
I sort of see it as the world stooping to his level.
I think he should have rotted in jail.

So that money could be taken out of your paycheck?

So that he could have a probationary loophole to get out of jail?

Death is surefire, anything else is asking for trouble.

No, I totally know that.
But now the people that followed him will see him as a martyr because he died for a cause.

Explain how he was a threat then.

This wasn't directed towards me, but I will gladly answer. If Saddam was to get back into power somehow or even simply escape(only way to make sure that doesn't happen is to kill the man) could you imagine the anger he would have and how many people would die for him? No, you can't honestly tell me there no possible threat to America or any American citizen.

While that may be far-fetched, it is possible and could cause a terrorist attack or anything. And killing him removes any possible chance for him to order anything that could cause damage.

Al Jazeera and Al Hura have reported that no cleric was present, this was confirmed by the Iraqi government and Americans. Sure, deny the man a last moment of to ask for forgiveness. He was evil (more than evil but I refuse to insult a dead man), and he was hanged today? In the Eid (Muslim HUGE Holiday) You people make me sick. RIP Saddam.

Rest in peace? Ask for forgiveness? Are you crazy? The man was an out of control murder, no not a murderer, a torturer. The fact that you said rest in peace makes me want to throw up? So you condone what he was doing?

RIP all the dead people in the world, regardless of their evil or goodness is my view. And anyone deserves a cleric, murderer, rapist, whatever. And no, I'm very anti Saddam as a matter of fact, but killing him on the Muslim counterpart to Christmas? He should have been at least allowed to preform a final Eid prayer.

I think that whatever chances he's ever had of going to his heaven are long gone.

That I agree. But what about the chances of less torture in Hell?

He wrote a letter telling his followers 'not to be mad at the invaders' I don't think he falls under martyrdom.

dictionary.com

Martyr - a person who is put to death or endures great suffering on behalf of any belief, principle, or cause: a martyr to the cause of social justice.

Regardless of what he told his people, don't you think those die-hard followers of his aren't wishing for some sort of retaliation on American for bringing his execution about? Telling his people not to be mad makes him even more of a martyr.

Yes. I read an interview somewhere where some Iraqi military person said that rivers of blood would flow is Saddam died.

The point I was making was that Saddam wasn't a threat to America in the first place. Sure, if he were to escape he could be but I highly doubt the US would allow him to regain power, anywhere, in any shape or form.

Oh, and I love the "killing him is the more convenient way" comment people are making. You want to sentence a man to death because you may be too incompetent to hold on to him and because not doing so would cost taxpayers money? Why not kill every other murderer, raper, torturer, sadistic freak etc. simply because it's more economical? You could remove the need for high security prisons, that would sure as hell save a lot of money. Even better, why not kill everyone who commits a crime? Imagine how much money it would save.
