I'm a PC guy, but recently I've been looking towards a new mac, probably after the new OS release later this year. Problem is, I enjoy the occasional game on my computer, most recently Age of Empires 3. I've heard somewhere that gaming on Macs is tough to do... can someone shed some light on this ? I don't want a PC Mac war either, just some insight on gaming with a MAC. I don't play highend graphical games, mostly war-time strategy and sim games. |

Really, there is at least some games that can't be played on a Mac, but the graphic quality is amazing. IMHO, I'd get a Mac. |

Ok this is my story and what happened last year, I'm just telling you not to be dissapointed and do the same thing because I suppose I lost a £100 in the long run. :sigh: Once upon a time in January last year when iMacs were all go and just about out of stock I rushed down to a big store and bought one for £629. I found it ok but I didn't really get on with it since I had been so used to windows and mainly I could do all the same stuff. Go online, burn, etc... Anyway I then found out that I would had to rebuy all of my games, software and stuff and that was a nightmare so I didn't buy the stuff in the end. It looked nice but later on it didn't impress me and I sold it on eBay and bought a nice new computer which I loved and typing on now. It was double the ram, double the hardrive space and much more...So the answer is you either get a power pc or a basic mac. ^o) |

Last year that might have been a problem, but now with Boot Camp, simply install XP and just use it whenever you need the Windows-only software. |

Don't you think that you're being a little hypocritical Websurfer? You're always telling people to keep on topic and answer the question there. Furthermore we all know that you think Linux is the best bloody OS out there but not everyone agrees with you. DH asked for a comparison between a MAC and a PC nothing about Linux. Sure it's another option but he clearly didn't want to know anything about it. So it's not really helping answer his question Mr.technician. As for my view. If you brought your PC and still have the Windows OS CD then you can buy a Mac, get Bootcamp and have Windows for all of your gaming needs as well as Mac for your needs. I'm sure there are emulators that can play games even without Bootcamp. |

Well I don't have any Windows CDs since they all came on the HD of the computers I purchased argh ![]() The only thing with the mac that I'm concerned with is if most games run and if not, how to get around it for cheap. I also don't know much about the pricetag on a mac but I know PCs are around 300$ where I am so it's not much to purchase and I know most everything about them inside and out. The MAC OS is nice and with better stability I'd really be interrested as long as I can get my moneys worth with it. I'm always downloading and burning music and playing some basic games with a couple of advanced ones from time to time. Also heavy with graphic design. |

If you're looking to spend 300 on a pc then a mac isnt in your price range, period. They start at around 599 for a barebones. |

Oh... well that's not very good then. Thanks for the input. I may keep looking just incase I find a nice deal... but you're right about not bothering. Why is a Mac so much if it has less under the hood ? |

Apple regulates the retail prices. Unless you're on ebay, you aren't going to find a "deal". Macs have alot more under the hood. The OS it runs is optomised for the hardware it uses. You get better performance for the hardware you have whereas windows will poo away some of the specs. I used a Mac Mini at the local mac store. It was fast as hell. Destroied my P4, 512 MB ram laptop. Also, if you're a student and live within proxmity of an apple store or have a Student ID you can fax over to them, you're elegible for a 200 dollar student discount on their systems. http://www.apple.com/macmini/ That'd be the only one in your price range. |

PC vs Mac you say? Then.. why did you bring OSX and Windows into this? He asked about PC and Mac opinions... I gave my PC opinion... he didn't even mention Windows in his first post... Now, I shall take my leave, I gave information requested. It is another option... and by the nature of this thread, one can assume he wants options, otherwise he'd never consider choosing between two things, now would he? |
