Well, it comes out tommarow.

Who else is getting it? :)

I got the money for it but im not sure. Id rather get 2gb ram and save again.

How much RAM do you currently have?

512 :sigh:

Don't upgrade. Not even Basic is "fast" with 512.

But ill be getting 2gb ram... Congrats on 11k posts by the way.

It's not just your RAM, it's also your graphics card; you might need to upgrade that.

Btw, thanks. :P

Aye but remember the non-Aero UI is basically a re-skinned version of Luna (the default XP theme) so you won't need a graphics card...and providing your card was made within the past two or three years and is a standalone chip, it'll be fine with Aero anyway

Im upgrading my graphics card, is £100 much for one?

Well, can you afford it? If you can and you can still get a decent deal on 2gb of RAM then it's fine.

Vista doesn't supprot anything yet, there won't be any drivers supported for it, or for graphic card's under 9200 for ATI. I will wait a while before I get it, that way, I can actually get the best from it.

We have the RC Better and I reccomend against it. I have a brand new laptop (Christmas 06) and it takes 10 minutes to log on and once you are on your desktop you are there for a further 20 minutes. Pointless and it won't let you un-install

How much RAM do you have / What Vista are you running? The computers and laptops here take even faster time to start up (except for the 512MB ones).

Yes, It may come with drivers, but will they support your Video Card, Motherboard, audio or LAN. They MAY, they MAY NOT. Also, some Virus and Spyware scanner's are not supported with Vista at the minute, so it would be pointless to purchase it at the minute. :r

Nope. I know that Vista has many drivers for printers, and such.

Also, the only ones I care about (Webroot Spysweeper, Norton) are supported with Vista. :r

It's the fact you're using Vista (Ultimate nonetheless) with only 512MB of RAM. Expect it to be slow at logging on, and such.

Alot of drivers are still in Beta form including those for ATI cards. They're distributed with a warning that they aren't stable and shouldnt be used if productivity is necessary.

You're better off waiting at this point, just as you are with any new tech product that comes out. Wait 6 or so months and let everyone catch up.

On that note, there's a great tool on CNET (More extensive than the one offered by microsoft) which gives you an idea of how fast/slow your computer will run with vista. It also gives you an idea on what you need to upgrade.

To give everyone an example, my dad's brand new "Vista Capeable" HP Entertainment notebook which he just purtchaced two weeks ago isn't even suitable for Vista Ultimate. (AMD Turion x2, 2GB DDRSD Ram, 160GB Drive)

Which HP notebook? If what I'm thinking is correct, it is capable with Vista Basic and Premium. If you are using the computer just for the average user stuff, don't buy Ultimate; waste of your money. Ultimate is for your businessman-on-the-go simply.

One final note; the "Vista Capable" sticker is only if it's capable with Basic, not any other one.
