I wouldn't.  It reminds me alot of Windows ME.

Oh come on, don't exaggerate. I used ME for about 3 years. Even Vista Beta 2 was miles ahead of it in terms of stability. ME destroyed itself from the inside. Vista doesn't do that.

Vista makes Me look like its windows 95. :/

ME makes ME look like Windows 95. :P It doesn't need Vista's help.

I think most of you know I'm a diehard Apple fanboy. So I won't say much. But I will say what's true, and all the critics agree with me: Windows Vista is better then XP and is indeed more stable. HOWEVER, now is not the time to upgrade. Everyone agrees with that. Even PC Magazine. Not Linux Magazine, not Mac Addict, PC Magazine. They just had a special article called "10 Reasons NOT To Buy Vista Just Yet".

Also, and this is my shameless Apple plug, if you're planning on buying a new computer to run Vista, consider this: For around the same price (If not cheaper) you could buy a great Mac and run Vista on that along with Mac OS X. (Yes, Vista runs on Macs. I've done it, I know.)

That being said, Vista is a decent upgrade from XP, and is definitely a step in the right direction for Microsoft.

(Look at me! I, a Mac fan, just made an entire Vista post without mentioning that the entire system has loads of features ripped off from Mac OS X!... oh... ****... never mind.)

Saying Vista ripped off of OS X is like saying Japanese cars ripped off of American cars because they contain an engine, they run on gasoline, and have windows.

Also, find me a cheap Mac for $400. There is a Vista computer at my store that is under $400.

I know you're a student.

Walk into an apple store, or buy online. Mac mini for 349. Can't beat that.

(Students get a 200 dollar discount on ALL mac desktops&notebooks)

I'm talking about a base price; without discounts, as my employee discount rocks on computers (<3).

You just said show you one...so I did. =p

And by the way, is the one you're selling Aero-compatible? Like all the effects without any lag? Fancy transitions, clear borders, the whole deal?

It has Vista on it. You didn't say which version. :clown: The cheapest Premium one we have is about $495.

Mhmm. The point is, even the most bare-bones, most simple, lowest grade Mac runs all of OS 10's amazing visuals smoothly and stunningly. No matter how much Microsoft copied the look of Mac OS X, it still pales in comparison. So why does Windows Vista need four times more power to run ten times less?

I plan on getting a new laptop that's available with it...but I'm wondering:

Will programs that I have now work with Vista? Such as iTunes, Firefox, WindowsLive, AIm6.0, Photoschop CS, and [Prohibited Content]?

Yeah, and the most powerful (the Mac Pros) crash after opening one application (fiasco in today's Photoshop class... again).

Please tell me how Vista copied OS X's look

The Aero interface uses widgets and a side dock which are obviously rips of apple's objectdock. The interface in general has a plastic feel, much of how the current apple theme is.

And for the record, my work pc with a 3.4Ghz PIIII Hyperthreaded and 1gb ram also crashes sometimes when I open PS. Can't call that an apple problem, as it happens on both windows and OSX

All Photoshop related problems are purely Photoshop related. Photoshop for Macs sucks. It's the only major program not yet moved over to the Universal platform. Although I've never had it crash, I can vouge for its terrible speed and choppy rendering. Hopefully the new version will fix that problem.

A Link For Vulcan: With Love.

And yes, that's the PC Magazine article I was referring to. Thanks for posting the link. :)

I'll probably be buying it later on this year, more like May when I have the cash to buy a new computer, since my laptop still isn't back and this one is old.

Personally, I don't see it so much as "stealing" any IP from Apple, and, quite frankly, the similarities begin and end with small features that, when thought through, are simply because they're stylized or made more efficient, such as the searching or "Widgets"/"Gadgets". Does Mac OS X have it? Yeah. But their OS was updated quite frequently and were thereby able to conform to the needs of the community with each new build. Simply because Microsoft did not make any significant upgrades to their system, and it took so long to release their next iteration, it give Microsoft the need to catch up. Odds are, these are things Microsoft has seen Apple do well, and have seen Windows versions of the applications be released and decided it was a significant enough feature to be added to their next OS. I'm sure stuff like Konfabulator/Yahoo! Widget Engine and Google Desktop helped this out."

Ugh...fanboys annoy me so much. From both sides. I love my PC. I'm not a fan of macs. However, I'm not going to walk around and talk about how terrible macs are because of it. The fact that Windows Vista has "gadgets" doesn't mean they're copying mac's "widgets" (mac made up that word right?). It means that MS took notice at how many people got Window Blinds and downloaded those types of things for their computer. They're improving their search function because windows current search function sucks. They're incorporating a calendar because they realize their users want a good calendar. Did Apple do all these things first? Sure. But does that mean that everyone who does it after them is doing only so that they can rip off Apple? No. It means they're trying to provide their customers with a better product. So Apple fans, be happy that Apple is giving you new thing with their new OS's. Windows fans, be excited about your new OS. Now learn to play nice together or just leave each other alone.

Also, Spaces? I used that before, though it was on Ubunt--OH WAIT.

Well then what's with all the 'brushed metal' crap thrown in the OSX gui? And what else is Vista supposed to look like? Radiation?

Only the clinically insane think Apple invented Spaces. It's been a third party app on the Mac since the first release of OS X basically. It's been on Ubuntu since... well... forever. No one is claiming Apple came up with it. Apple is just implementing something that a lot of users use with third party software into their system. Which is just fine in my opinion. Microsoft does it too, every company does.

The difference being MS claims the third-party as first-party? [/icouldntresist]

What are "spaces"? On Apple's site it looks like Virtual Desktops.

Although a first to be released inside of Windows, virtual desktops are possible in XP, with a powertoy made by Microsoft. It's just a bundle (a much needed one, virtual desktops are very useful).

Okay, see the topic title? Why did you feel it necessary to announce that you use a Mac in this thread? Do we care? No.
