You know, a few days ago I heard about a little known fact: If every American family were to replace one candescent light bulb with a compact fluorescant light bulb, it would be the equivilant of taking 7.5k New York City cars off of the roads. I also heard about this in Al Gores Global Warming film. You see, if we don't do anything about Global Warming soon, the things you've been hearing aren't just going to happen. Our atmosphere is going to give out, just like what Scientists think what happened to Mars. Our atmosphere will literally dissapear, leaving us all, er... Dead. Plus, it could happen sooner than we all think, like in ten or twenty years. Though, we'd probably all be dead already from all of the famine, disease, unimaginable droughts worldwide, riots, heat, etcettera. See, I started this petition a few days ago, because I heard about how little needs to be done to change the direction of Global Warming: Changing a bloody light bulb. Well, it's been at least a week, and I've only gotten three signatures. One of which being my own, and the other two from people who felt pitty that I wasn't getting any signatures. I've been advertising everywhere. So, I've come to a conclusion that no one on this planet really cares. No one could care less. Basically, people don't think it concerns them, just because it's not going to affect them tomorrow. No one could take a minute out of their life to change a light bulb, to save the entire world. So before the moderators here get any first impressions, i'm not trying to advertise or anything like that... The reason for this topic is for one thing, and one thing only. A question: If you could help save the entire world by simply taking one minute to read a petition and sign it, would you do it? In short, do you care about Global Warming? Do you think others do? Why or why not? |

In our house probably about 75% of the lights are now energy saving ones. You can hardly tell any difference between them and normal bulbs. They've improved a lot compared to the ones you used to get that took ages to come to fully come on and were only half the brightness. |

Oh, definately. Speaking of those old fluorescant bulbs, my family still has a few from roughly seven years back. Amazingly, they still work! ![]() ...And amazingly, nearly twelve to fifteen different people have viewed this topic, and only you have replied. Goes to show that my theory was correct... |

No offence to anybody on this board but America, China and other vasious countries are doing the damage. Why, I'd do anything to make this planet right but first we all have to work together. :sigh: |

Sure, they might be doing some damage, but America is doing the most. California, especially. Though, it doesn't really matter who's doing the worst. We don't need to go and point any fingers. Though what we should be doing is just trying to stop it, before we all die via suffication and radiation. |

China is doing alot of 'damage' and will be worse than America soon... So even if the U.S. does start changing, China will still be far behind. |

I don't really believe in global warming. I believe that the end of the world will be coming, but only after Christ comes to take His church home. Then, after the tribulation things will start happening. The end of the world will come, though, but I don't believe it will end with 'global warming'. |

Technically, America is a large producer of damage, because we have a large population, and a lot of money. We ride cars because we can afford them. China and other countries would too, but a huge amount of their citizens can't afford them, or cannot use them due to terrain issues. You try riding your bike from New York to California. If most European countries were as large and wealthy, you'd see this too.Besides, America is a leader is environmental technology. We're funding several thousands projects. California? Ok, please realize California is becoming the number one health spot in America. Environmentalists flock to California due to its technology. I personally am not switching to fluorescent lights. Lights aren't going to be a big change, because not every American is going to switch. Hybrid cars, yes. Modern non-harmful factories, yes. Light bulbs? No. Please stop being extremely narrow minded. Go blame the countries that aren't doing anything, because if you haven't seen the news in the past few years, we are. The are thousands of more factories that produce ten times the amount of harmful gases than American ones do. You just don't realize it because we have more, because we're larger. Nearly all countries are contributing, mostly evenly. America became advanced awhile ago, before global warming was even warned about. You can't just stop something, it's not our fault. We are working together. The UN is trying to fix this problem, Congress is trying to fix this problem. If you want to complain, do it to the government, not us. Telling us to stop using water or stop driving cars is insane. Go tell Canada to do the same, I heard they drive up there as well. Mexico too. Don't blame America unless you blame every country. Besides, incandescent light bulbs are way prettier. |

LMAO. You Conservatives make me laugh. Prettier. Always presuming, and never thinking. Our governments are brain washing us. They aren't doing anything at all. Europe is arguably the only section of the world that's taking action. All other nations couldn't care less. So, you don't want to change a lght bulb, just because of the reasons you've stated. You'd rather pick comfort over saving this damned planet? You would rather allow these idiotic government officials try to solve problems with their ten. twenty, and hundred step plans, while we sit here guzzling fuel? You don't seem to comprehend how severe of a problem this really is. If we don't fix this bloody problem in a matter of years, meaning three to five years, we're all DEAD. This means that you, and everyone you know is going to die a slow, and painful death. Everything you've worked for is going to be gone. This entire planet is going to be gone. We, as a human race, will be gone. All your money will be gone. All of these governments will be gone. Everything will be gone, if we don't fix this problem NOW. Governments aren't going to help us. Everything is a business, and depends on money. Even the government. All they care about is money. Just because it isn't going to hit you tomorrow, doesn't mean it won't jump back around and hit you the next. Imagine if you know the exact day of Judgement Day. A million nuclear warheads were going to rain upon the entire planet, and we all knew the exact date. What would you do? Try to stop it? Change your life? Stop working? It would have a big effect. Wouldn't it? Especially if it were to happen in a few years, or months, or days. Same thing with Global Warming. It's just that the way it's portrayed isn't effecting people the same way. If we don't stop it now, Global Warming will be the equivilant of a full scale nuclear attack on this entire planet. Simularity? We're all dead. No escaping it. So while your trying to decide which light bulb looks better in your hundred thousand dollar dining room, I'll be making a conscience effort to save this planet before it's too late/ |

Stopped taking you serious right after that. 1) Do not think that because someone is a conservative or holds conservative view points are nil, there are pros and cons to both sides. 2) If you really think America is the blame and America is the one that needs to change, you have some facts wrong. America is working on changing and if you care to tell me that the government does nothing I've had to take care of paperwork and filter changing for a cabinet shop due to the airborne chemicals we finish cabinets with... a cabinet shop... now imagine the regulations on a company with more environmental impact. The countries that will have the largest impact on global warming are countries currently developing. India, China, etc. America is moving towards cleaner vehicles, these countries are happy to use vehicles that have horrible fuel quality, each one of those vehicles is the equivalent of multiple advanced ones such as those in the UK and US - and those countries are quickly putting exponential amounts of these vehicles on the road daily. You don't specify an age in your profile, and odds are you're some delusional 15 year old who saw "An Inconvenient Truth" and believes they know every fact about global warming. |

I love how people can understand jokes. I'm not changing my light bulbs because it's a bright white light that will make me depressed. I recycle, I am buying a hybrid car, I will vote for pro-environmental bills. I'm just not doing something that will have a small impact on the world and a big impact on my life. I'm 14. I don't, surprisingly, have the power to drive, vote, or own a home. It's not my decisions right now. Brain washing? Ok, you seriously need to think about your views. That's really kind of idiotic to say they are brainwashing us. I don't like America, I hate the country, but I live here and will stand up when we're being assaulted with lies. The United States is doing an extremely large amount for the protection of the environment. Wake up. Guzzling fuel? We use no more fuel than ANY other country with cars. None. None at all. Once again, you think we're the culprit because we're a large country. The world is not ending in three to five years. That's insane. It's one thing to predict it will end sometime soon, but that's not a fact. I'm not going to be dead in five years. I'm going to be perfectly fine at college. And my slow, painful death won't come for another sixty to seventy years. Please, so a healthy debate may go on, read up on your topic before you start calling names.

1) Yeah, brainwashing. Ok, maybe that was the wrong word choice, sort of speak, and I didn't necessarily mean that towards Global Warming. Though, here's an example. President Bush and Iraq. Lied to us about why we went in there. Comprehend what I'm saying? 2) Astheria- One year short; I'm fourteen, and hardly delusional. I know exactly what's going on in the world. Exactly. 3) Truthfully, I hate the US too, and I live here as well Can't agree with you more on that. Though, the US is the main culprit. Sure, other countries are just as bad... but the US is the worst. Try Googling some statistics. Especially for California.4) Yes. We guzzle fuel. We, as Americans, drive to work, then to the market, then over to see a movie, then to a park, then for some entertainment, a nights drink, whatever else we feel like, and drive back home, only to repeat the exact same thing. Whereas our good ol' European friends know exactly where their going to go, take the shortest route there, get what they need and drive home. Plus, a large majority of Europeans don't even use gassoline, yet cleaner fuels. 5) Never said it was. I said that if we don't make a change in three to five years, we're all dead, meaning that our window of opportunity to change the direction of Global Warming is three to five years. If we don't use that window in the alotted ammount of time, then our fate is set. Proof? Polar ice caps. Record heat waves. Major droughts out in the Middle East and the like. 6) Seventy years? Hardly. Try maybe fourty to fifty, or less. 7) Already have, my friend. Already have. |
