Alright, after reading the posts here, I think I will take the plunge to make a stand.... The world won't be ending in 10-20 years. Thats a bunch of bull crap. The world WILL end in millions of years.... Changing all the light bulbs won't change a damn thing. I've never even heard of such a thing. The current bulbs in my house are perfectly fine, and human have been using them for many years, since they were INVENTED! Not sure on the year, but how come the bulbs are mysteriously hurting us now? Why didn't they hurt our lives back then? Yes I agree that the cars, and the gas is hurting our planet, but our light bulbs? Please....Thats just stupid. Okay, I'm done! |

You're not old enough to have a job, drive, pay taxes, be enlisted in the military, drink, smoke, have consentual sex, or even grow facial hair. Please don't tell me you know more about the world than others at that age. |

First, I think you've got your views wrong. They could help us. A lot, actually. How? When you use light bulbs, you use electricity. Correct? Right. So, where does that electricity come from? Power plants. Now, your average candescent light bulb uses x ammount of energy. What if I were to tell you that the average compact fluorescant bulb uses roughly 10% of the electricity of what the average candescent bulb uses? You'd be saving those power plants a lot of work, just to light up your house. So, would result in power plants not having to burn so much fossil fuels for your needs, resulting in less polution. Yes, it would help us. A lot. Google some statistics. Sure, it wouldn't completely stop Global Warming. But it's a start. A big start. Especially for America. Baby steps are the building blocks for society. Astheria- Not exactly trying to start a flaming war, but I am telling you that I know what I'm talking about. Try not believing everything that the media tells you, and watching some media from different countries. Try looking around the web. You agree with the fact that the media is biased, in some way or another, right? Every news station is, in some way. You can't believe everything you hear. I'd love to continue rambling on about world events, but I'd be going off topic. If you'd like, we could continue that debate via PM. For now, let's just stick to Global Warming.

Exactly no one cares. Give it up. But seriously: I actually prefer flour. lights because they're white instead of yellow. |

Electricity is a renewable resource primarily generated from environmentally friendly structures such as windmills. So I fail to see your point. If you really want to change things, money needs to be invested into Hydrogren fuel, and other ways of generating alternatives to finite resources such as oil. |

LMAO... Nicola, you just made my bloody day. Really.Gee, I do wish there was some sort of 'histerically laughing' smiley. ![]() Astheria- Yup. In Europe. Here in the US, we use what we like to call, 'Fossil Fuels.' |

Alright, new plants are being built...Do you know what kind? Geothermal Plants.... GeoThermal Energy America is the LARGEST producer of Geothermal Energy, so if you think America isn't doing enough, then get your facts straight. Whats so good about Geothermal energy you ask? Well, it doesn't produce harmful chemicals into the atmosphere. All it is, is very hot water, steaming up at a fast rate, rotating turbines at a fast rate, giving, you guessed it, ELECTRICITY! So what we need more of, is geothermal energy. I am not sure if every piece of land can be used for geothermal land or not, nor if every state has a geothermal plant.....But THIS is the biggest step we could take to START to save the planet. Its also very cheap. EDIT: Many car companies are making concept ELECTRIC cars. Now, if in the next 5-6 years, these car companies can actually mass produce these, and make them better, with a faster running time, instead of just 50 miles for a 3 hour charge, then many people will use these means of transportation. Along with the companies making electric cars, there are also car companies coming out with engines that can use BioDeisal (SP?). Its a Vegie oil, that is thinned with something that I don't know. But its becoming very popular. Link Although you need a DIESEL engine, but someway, car manufacturers will make cars for this purpose... |

Nicola- I completely agree Just for the heck of it, (and for a good laugh) I'm going to make you a graphic, stating just that Mr. Danger- Oh, lovely. So when Global Warming takes effect, we'll have all the heat we need to power these buggers! In a real sense, ok. Big deal. The majority of our power plants are powered by fossil fuels. The "light bulb" idea would still take a big chunk out of Global Warming. America isn't doing enough. Try comparing us to our good o' European friends. Really. |

Nicola. First of all, idk999, the internet is the media. You can't say you don't believe the media, and then point your information to the web. America is pushing for electric cars, water powered cars, corn oil powered cars. Try reading magazines, watching the news. They're working for it. Blame the world. Tell the world your problems. Not the United States. Nearly every single technologically sound country is wasting energy, using fossil fuels, adding carbon. It is everyone. The United States is one of the leading countries in environmentally sound technology. Could you please actually read this post? We're being blamed because we're a large country, statistics show us on top because we're a LARGE COUNTRY. More space, more people, more cars, more factories, more everything. We're working to fix that, as is Europe, Canada, Asia, and other major areas. You can't blame us for this. This isn't our fault. Light bulbs won't do anything, because people don't care about light bulbs. They care about better cars, better factories, big things. It's not our fault, it's the human mind, and you can't change that with light bulbs. We have windmills, water powered cars, solar powered houses, corn oil powered machines. We're working to fix this, just like the rest of the world. If you want to change things, get more money for the countries that cannot afford these new powered machines. Read my posts, because you've been completely ignoring the big points I'm making. |
