It's Mayweather.
Mayweather will walk all over him, no question about it.

I'd like to see a De la Hoya victory, I've heard of Mayweather, but really haven't followed his career. Interesting fact: De La Hoya's trainer is Mayweather's father :clown:

Used to be his trainer. De La Hoya fired him and switched his trainer to Freddie Roach. Mayweather was the better fighter no doubt, and he showed it by fighting a crisper fight. He landed 43% of his punches compared to 21% for Oscar. He hit Oscar with some hard shots and played incredible D against him. Mayweather deserved to win the fight and showed why he is the best pound for pound fighter this century. He should really be considered a legend, considering he beat the "Golden Boy" who everyone thought was the best fighter of the century and if he is true to his word and stays retired then he will have finished with a 38-0 record which is incredible in this day and age no matter who you are fighting. Not many people like Mayweather because they percieve him as a villain and what not. They say he is too cocky, hes to greedy, etc. But when its all said and done, Floyd Meaweather Jr. is the best fighter of the century.

I wouldn't say he was no doubt the better fighter, since he won on the split decision, and by a decently close margin, he did take the win in my opinion, though. And by best fighter of the century, I hope you mean for the century 2000-2100 so far.

Of course from 2000 onward... Ali is the greatest fighter ever. De La Hoya barely landed anything. That judge was basing it upon a couple of late flurries that he had late in rounds to try and maybe to steal a few. He was in my mind the more dominant fighter, and he really didnt even box his best effort. He was just quicker and more mobile, and in the end it payed off because Oscar just didnt have the speed to keep up (the only move he had that was really working was the jab and he didnt really use it that much).

Ali in my opinion is second to Joe Louis in all-time greatness That's just my opinion, though.

Meaweather is amazing, no doubt. I've been a fan of Oscar since I started watching boxing, but I had to go with Meaweather on this fight. He very well could be the best fighter of the century.

Interesting. Never thought I'd see the day where Ali doesnt get props for best fighter ever...

Well, Ali's that guy that everybody knows about and knows what he did and from what I've seen, most people rank him as one of the best boxers ever. Now, people are seeing new fighters step into the limelight. I hate to say it but Ali is pretty much a peice of history to some people now...

It's not too uncommon really, I know a few of the trainers from my gym that put Louis, Marciano, Dempsey, and even Joe Frazier above Ali (though I still think he's the second greatest). I think Frazier deserves to be considered one of the top fighters, but most of his career was overshadowed by how great Ali was.

That's true, but I have my doubts that todays fighters could last with a guy like Ali. The last guy to really unify the heavyweight title and stand out from all the other fighters was Tyson (even though I don't really like the guy).

Yes fighters these days wouldnt last with Ali because of his technique. He used to just stay there and absorb hits until the fighter got tired... Nobody nowadays would really be able to tire him out enough to make sure he doesnt let off a lethal move late.
Also ESPN.com is having a countdown of the top 50 fighters of all time. Right now 41-50 is up, with Mayweather making the cut at 48. We shall see how they place at number 1 and if they place Oscar De La Hoya above Mayweather.

I didn't get to see it, but I'm thinking Ali was probably considered number one. If you can, could you post the top 5?

Didn't expect to see Tyson as 50, or Joe Frazier in the 20's, that's for sure.
