Oh, iPods all of Apple's products are wayyy overpriced.

But with iPods, you can get plenty of third-party accessories, and then there's the style and coolness factor that goes with them.

Except that most of the third-party accessories aren't exclusive to iPod/Apple products and are better suited for other mp3 players/electronics. Apple has a closed circle of products. For anything that you think iPod has the best of, I'll give you a couple way better and probably cheaper options.

I know you can, but I, like any other iPod user, don't care.

Because iPods users don't care about saving money.

(That was intended as a joke)

I voted MP3, despite the fact that they are both MP3 players, technically. I have a Samsung YP-Z5 which does the job perfectly.

and you don't have to get music illegally.

What? I know plenty of people who have illegal music o their iPods, I think thats a random statement.

Anyways, I like my Samsung mp4 player better than any iPod :P

To buy an iPod you must either be:
A ) Very thick when it comes to technology;
B ) Have more money than sense.
iPods are seriously bad value for money, and aren't the best on the market (not these days anyway).

I personally have a cheap £20 1GB MP3 player from Argos, satisfies my needs so :)

Aggresive advertising and product identification. Those are the major reasons why the iPod is so popular. A significant number of people out there honestly believe the iPod is the only choice out there. More often than not, these same people also have the tendency to believe that if it isn't advertised as aggressively as the iPod, it must be crap.

The iPod is not a bad player. It has very minimalist controls and an easy to navigate UI (which, arguably, Apple "borrowed" from Creative). However, it has significant limitations and shortcomings.

One of these shortcomings is lack of codec support. Sure, iTMS has a large catalog of music, but it's not the end-all beat-all of music selection, and the iPod essentially shuts you out of all other music subscription services and online stores - which means, it's iTMS, your own CD's, or nothing.

Second is audio quality. The sound quality of the iPod isn't bad, but there are better - much better. The iPod also lacks basic capability to customize your own equalization settings. How Apple can completely ignore such a basic function for so many years is completely beyond me. Most non-iPod DAPs have a custom equalizer in amongst their presets.

Third is video quality. The iPod is only capable of displaying approximately 65 thousand colors. This is sub-optimal. It results in artifacts and color gradients that are not smooth. For a good example of this, just set your computer to 16-bit color and try to watch a movie. There are better out there. The Zen Vision:M displays approximately 262 thousand colors. While this isn't 32-bit color depth, it is significantly better than 65k color depth. The result is far fewer artifacts, smoother gradients, and richer video.

The iPod also lacks features that are standard in other players. Some of these features may not be important for some, but will be important for others. Some examples include FM radio, FM radio recording, and voice recording.

Battery life in the iPod is less than stellar when compared to other players of its class. it's kind of hard to fully enjoy your iPod when it has to spend half its time plugged into a charger. Just be thankful there are a multitude of speakers and docks that will allow you to listen to your music while charging, at least as long as you are in the same room with it. Without that, you'd be stuck. The Vision:M, for example, gets about 16 hours audio playback time on a charge, or 4.5-5 hours full-motion video playback time. This exceeds the iPod's video playback time by about 115%! If audio playback time is important to you, there are players out there that can get up to 45 hours of music playback time on a single charge!

iPod has a few things going for it: Product identification, market presence, third-party accessory support, and iTunes. But once you remove this superficial glitz and glitter, all you have is a lackluster player.

Sony Walkman. Looks better than an iPod, does the same and is cheaper. Then again, I'd rather die than use an Apple product. And where did the idea iPods aren't just a brand of mp3-players come from?

Edit: [:)]

And easy:
A) = a backup of B )
B ) = Batteries for iPods are notoriously known to die around a year (if ya lucky), the pad sometimes get sticky, the reliability of them isn't the best... and you can only use iTunes with it until recent versions where they allow most formats (and at that limited).
