Ipod or mp3; either or?

Hey, as long as it plays music, I'm fine. That's what the MP3 player was created for initially.

I've had an iPod and I was perfectly fine with it. It was a Red Nano and played my songs well and held a majority of my fav songs. I have a green Creative Zen Vision: M and I <3 that as well.

My friends have Zunes and they're so pretty. My sister has the Toshiba Gigabeat, which is the predecessor to the Zune and that's a pretty thing to behold as well.

the iPod is preferable to me. I love it, I love how it works, I love how simple it is, I love the style, I love how works music fine. The only thing I don't like is the battery life, but, I can go like, 3 full days of listening to music on it without recharging it, if you listen to songs in order, the battery works better, because it's RAM caches the next 20 songs in order, so the battery lasts longer, also, if you set the backlight to the minimum, it still lights it up enough to see the screen perfectly, and you only need it to last 3 seconds, and then, vwala, a perfectly good battery.

And to everyone saying that iPods are so bad, if they're so bad, how come there are so many satisfied customers? How come the iPod is the most selling digital music player of all time? hmmm? Because it's advertising, yea, I'm sure, advertising might make something sell decently, but to have it sell 100 million copies, and hold like, 70% or something of the mp3 marketshare, 90% of the marketshare of mp3 players with hard drives, well, it takes more then dumb luck to get that. And most other decent mp3 players you see, I find copy the iPod in design soooo much.

And also, yes, the iPod breaks fairly easily, apple also offers 1 year of FREE apple care, and for only like, $60 or something, you can extend it for another year.

iPod = win, hands down.

It is the advertising; where they brand it in your head. I've had countless customers ask me "Show me your iPods!" "What do you mean there are other iPods?" As in, the advertising/branding is so extreme, that people don't know there are cheaper, and better alternatives.

If I show the customers the advantages/disadvantages to the top three mp3 players (iPod, Zen, Zune), the Zen and Zune will win nearly 80% of the time.

The only similarities I see are the shape (rounded rectangle). Besides that, each one is unique.

cheap labor, mass production. Sure, they're making some money for Chinese villages, but that's about it.

The iPod interface was originally the Creative Zen's interface, but iPod used their patent, so that's why the Zen and iPod interface is similar.

The iPod design isn't stolen. When did Apple copyright the circle design navigation? Touch screen is innovative. And who would want to carry a potato-shaped device around? The rectangle shape fits easily in your hand. Other companies weren't thinking of 'copying' iPod designs when they were building their mp3s.

That part about "show me your iPods!", I don't even understand what that's about. All I know, is I never even saw an ad for an iPod until after I got one, so a lot of it is word of mouth (still advertising, but nothing on apple's behalf)

And yes, I did mean the rectangular design, and plus how like, the zune has the little round thing going on, that kind of looks like a scroll wheel (but isn't). Plus they all browse mostly the same, face it, the iPod was revolutionary, and the next iPod is going to be touch screen scroll wheel, setting it apart from the rest of mp3 players, yet again (I'm not sure on the current number of touch screen mp3 players, but I don't believe it's all that high).

I've even seen some mp3 players (one even posted above on this page) to copy the shape and such as to have the white on one side, and then silver on the back, the exact same way.)

iPods work just great.

It means that customers don't know they are called mp3 players, and call the Zen, and Sansa players iPods ("Are they the newest iPods?")

For me all I need is that USB (normal) to USB (fancy) extention cable, let the OS auto-detect the MP3 Player, then drag & drop files like you would on a normal thumb drive (flash drive).

Also, here's a pic of what I'm using: http://www.burnworld.com/mp3-players/image...ndisk-sdmx1.gif

I dislike iPod's and everything Apple, soo I have an Archos. It does everything an iPod can do and more, for a cheaper price. I'm not going to get an iPod just because "OMG every1 has 111!!!! need cool stylish cover and case!!!" :P

I have an iPod, I've had one for along time, so when the new ones came out I just upgraded (i.e. I sold my old one and got about half enough for a new one). I considered getting a Zune when it came out but they're too big. I heard that it was an early model that they wanted out before Christmas, so I figure I'll wait till they get slimmer.

I'm going to disagree here. If you remove to scroll wheel from the front of the iPod the entire area could then be dedicated to the screen. I personally don't think of the ability to over double the iPod's screen area as a useless feature.

Oh, iPods all of Apple's products are wayyy overpriced.

But with iPods, you can get plenty of third-party accessories, and then there's the style and coolness factor that goes with them.

I disagree with you Vulcan (quoting Meltdown for a good ol' QFT), but moving on:

Would you say Nike products are overpriced? Designer clothes?

No, you pay for the brand - you pay more simply because of your faith in that particular brand to assure you quality. From my experience with Apple products, including a MacBook Pro and an iPod Nano I feel happier with the way that I spent my money than how I've felt handling some of the more "generic" products or even competitor products. I prefer the Apple brand and will pay for it because the brand means quality to me and my personal experience.

Also, a footnote to the genius of Apple that the original poster believed that an iPod was in an entirely different category than your "standard mp3" player. Binary marketing wins again; Steve Jobs == Genius.

I could see it being useful if you play with the iPod all the time, and not just store it in your pocket, or on the desk most of the time.

Yep, I would. They are way overpriced as well. ($100+ for a pair of sneakers!!?)

So do you feel happy knowing you could've saved hundreds of dollars by getting another laptop and mp3 player that would've done you as good?

I have several apple products that are also made by other companies.I trust a company that doesn't go bankrupt or steal ideas. They gave me 3 year apple care for 20$ when i took back my broken iPod nano.

Apple stole the Zen interface for their iPods.

My point was that just because something is the same color as the iPod, doesn't mean they are stealing the look. I could agrue that Apple is copying off of Creative Labs by having their Nanos in color.
