To those who know her, in Britain, and maybe somewhere else - she is Prince Charles 'wife'. (More about here here )I would like to ask you this: Should she become queen? If she is queen - will Britain fall into decay? Is she even suitable for the job, as queen? I, personally, don't think she should. She should be Princess. I don't like her - reason is, that because she is not fit for Queen. I feel that she, and Charles, will bring decay among the family and will destroy Britain. A little farfetched for some, but that is my reason. She may become queen - but end of the day, the public will have the final bite - and no one, not even the Queen, royal family or anyone, can change that. *-) Discuss. Should Camilla become Queen? And if she will become Queen - what devastation shall it bring upon Britain? ![]() |

Nah. She'll probably start a war over a waiter bringing the wrong food. |

No, I don't like her, but if she does become queen, then it won't be the end of the world. The monarchy doesn't really have much power left anymore, and what power it does have will be in Charles' hands, since he will be the one with the blood link to Elizabeth II. We've had worse rulers in the past anyway, tyrants, even. |

The Monarchy has no power other than influence, however, that can be a great power in itself. I, personally, do not support the existence of such a Monarchy. Therefore, I think that there should be no Queen or King at all. However, it is Prince Charles' choice who he marries, not Britain's. Therefore, "rightfully", she should become Queen. |

Though not within the country myself (so I can only speak from what I've gathered through various sources) I think the Monarchy is a really great source of Nationalism. Admittedly a movie, "The Queen" was a really great insight into the responsibility and pride involved in the role of the monarch and I think that in today's world, we'll see whoever is in the position step up and fulfill the role to the best of their ability. As we see in any government, the actions performed by the officials are torn apart by the public, and always will be. But whether Camilla is a perfect choice or not, whether she'll make mistakes or not, no one is going to allow her to run rampant. She will do all she can to satisfy the role to the best of her ability. |

I don't think she would be referred to as the Queen at any rate. Queen Elizabeth's husband is referred to as Prince Phillip. Cammila may be Princess...or still the Duchess of Cornwall. Prince Charles would be referred to as King. |

I personally don't find the role of Queen to be that important. Queen Elizabeth II is powerful because she can appoint people to the House Of Lords (right? :ermm:), but I would assume that Charles would be in charge of that if they were made queen and king. Camilla would only be a public figure, and I think she's getting a lot of practice with that at the moment. Overall, I'm not a fan of "divine right," so I don't believe it matters whether or not she's of royalty. *shrug* I don't even live in England, so I don't really care unless it has a negative impact on other countries, and I don't think it will. |

I don't agree with the Monarchy, so no, I don't think she should become a Queen, nor should Charles become a King. |

Don't worry, Camilla will NOT become Queen. That was made quite explicit when she and Charles got married. I'm personally in favour of a monarchy - don't ask me why, I just think it suits Britain and the Commonwealth better than having a President - but I really don't want Charles to be King. Can you imagine having him walking in royal robes trying to be interested in everywhere he goes? He does a poor enough job now. He should stick to his charity work and let someone more capable to be in power. |

Urgh...I'd rather not have either Charles or William...especially since I foresee Charles having more hair than William in ten years...that guy has a rapidly receeding hairline

I second that. Why not William? Or Harry? They may be King, but at least they are more 'suitable'. :sigh: |

Technically the Queen has a lot more power than that but if she were to use it, public opinion would explode probably resulting in the Constitutional Monarchy being destroyed. Tony Blair pretty much gives the Queen a list of the people he wants to sit in Lords. Who's to say that Charles will outlive the Queen? Prince Charles is pretty old himself, and you can't exactly rule out a death by stroke or death by choking on some of his 'healthy food' which contains more calories than McDonalds (which he criticised for having too many calories), etc. Anyway Camilla will never be Queen because a lot of people still stand by Princess Diana and despite the no hard feelings towards Camilla after her marriage to Charles, I'm sure that would change if she stated that she wanted to be crowned Queen.
Prince Charles is also just a Prince. ![]()
I agree, what would distinguish us from the Americans and the rest of the world? Not many other countries have a working democratic monarchy and this is something that Britain should be proud of.
Britain isn't autocratic and hasn't been since the execution of Charles I and the establishment of Parliament holding the majority of the power. Also the "divine right" to rule is generally stemmed from Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxism which the British monarchy is neither. The Protestant (and Presbyterian) Faith is a lot less 'showy' and conservative (in the roles of Monarchy and the Church and not in things like dancing, drinking, etc. that was experienced in the Puritan (similar to Presbyterian) rule of England under Cromwell). |

I don't really see why. A monarchy is basically a group of people who were born into a family, and became part of the 'royal family'. They've done nothing to deserve it, maybe someone in their family did, but not them. To me, it shows that we haven't moved with the times, and that we're still an old-fashioned country. |
