About the issues of Brussels controlling the affairs of Europe, it is a complete myth urged on by the media. It's basically propaganda against European integration by painting the picture that Britain is controlled by such a small power and has no say in it. Strangely enough, even if Britain were more integrated in the EU it would still have enough power to veto or be against the vote for issues/regulations. Isn't Brussels just the meeting place for the EU leaders?

Well the people that we vote for that go to the EU conferences and such, don't actually get to vote on the passing of laws. However England has said 'pees off' to a few laws in the past that it didn't like.

I didn't say that everyone in Europe hated England, I said that the countries in general seem to (OK i didn't say that, but it's what I meant) dislike us.

I pull this theory out of things like the Eurovision song contest, which IS political voting and everyone knows it.

To our Northern American friends who feel that Europe should unite despite the differences in language, customs and economic wealth, you should really understand a bit more about European culture before you make that assumption. I know Canada is a country that is bilingual but a fully united European state would have to have 3-5 (at least) official languages - which is to say a lot. I guess you do have an argument somewhere that nations can still retain their 'independence' and patriotism can somehow be retained in a united Europe. I mean look at the example of the USA, are people deeply patriotic about living in Texas or Washington State?

Exactly.

By they way great debating all

This thing is too long for me to read thru it all (I'm lazy, feh.) so I'll just reply to a few things I saw pop up.

1. The American dollar is falling because our president is retarded and starting a f*cking war that has turned into reformatting a f*cking country, and should've been finished up a while ago.

2. England is F*cking awesome. (I'm an American btw). The pound, with the queen's head on it, is like... a symbol of Great Britain and should never be gotten rid of. Hell, someone thinks of England and the first three things they think of are the pound, the queen, and the accent (in no particular order).

3. The Euro is a wussy money, and there really shouldn't be so many countries using the same money, it's just unhealthy for their borders.

You seem to equate a stronger currency with a stronger economy. That is actually incorrect, in general the lower the strength (to a certain extent) the better it is for the economy. There's a reason why China is keeping the value of the yuan so low.

A term for 'I heartily agree,'

It is usually used in Anime.

In my personal opinion I prefer the pound over the euro. Why should England be the same when we can be unique? The uniqueness of the country is what makes us stand out from the rest. Keep the pound!

Zimbabwe is unique that its currency and economy is completely worthless. I think I'd prefer a stable economy over being a unique country. There may be a time when the British economy is at a standstill (which may be soon considering the dependency on Russia for gas and the draining gas and oil supplies in the North Sea and a reluctance to invest more in nuclear power) while the continent is steam rolling ahead of us. It happened in the 50s/60s when Britain was recovering slower than the EU countries and we were forced to abandon our economic ties with EFTA and join the EU albeit with much resistance from the French. We have to be prepared for all circumstances and there may be a time when the British Pound sterling will "suck" and the Euro being the only option to stimulate the economy.

Exactly.

Also, I don't think that England is ever really going to be behind in the future slog for fuels.
