I looked at this thread thinking i'd see some lighthearted comments, but some people are taking this really seriously.
You all know he isn't real, right?
And someone posted about it should've been brought out in the books to teach kids about acceptance? I think that would've been a bad idea (even though i'm not a HP fan), does a fictional gay person need to be paraded around in the story for children to accept them?
OMG, ive just gone serious too >_> the ironing is delicious.
If JK Rowling really meant to teach children about tolerance, then she would've made Dumbledore's sexuality more obvious. She just wanted to get a kick out of this.
Oh so true. I think she's doing it so she'd be in the press and so people would end up buying the books to see if she has put hints that he's gay. It could backfire tho, like they might think it's smut and that children are reading it etc. but a risk is a risk.

My friends pointed out a few hinters they discovered in the books. Ah well, it does really matter anymore, though...

Don't make ridiculous accusations you know nothing about.
First of all, you think Rowling needs sales? That's hilarious, more than hilarious. She is a billionaire, and has said plenty of times, she needs no more money. Besides, the book's sales are continually through the roof.
Rowling has pages and pages of history for her characters. Each one of them, she's revealed. She's even had readings where she's listed information about other characters, this is just a little more reported. Dumbledore has always been gay, always. It's just a little point of interest found within those pages. Someone had asked her a question, and she truthfully replied.
If they hadn't asked the question, we wouldn't know right now.

I agree with you completely. I doubt she wants or needs anymore press then she already has.

I doubt that. Professor Dumbledore is mature enough not to have romantic emotions for a fellow co-worker. Yes, he indeed danced with Professor McGonagell at the Yule Ball in the Goblet of Fire, but I still doubt he had a 'thing' for her. Dumbledore would think it improper.

I have to agree. Dumbledore never struck me as the kind of person to have a romantic relationship around his students. He seemed like he loved his work too much.
But, I'm not saying it isn't possible.

I don't think that it is a big deal. He is still the same guy. And who cares if he is gay. I think that he's great no matter what.

But to some fans, Dumbledore was more than just a fictional character. You have to always remember that other fans around the world are more in touch and/or obsessed with the characters than you.

S/he's not saying Dumbledore wasn't a big deal, s/he's saying Dumbledore's sexuality wasn't a big deal. And I agree.

Excuse me, I worded that wrong. I meant that Dumbledore was more than just a fictional character to some people, and that his sexuality would've played a major role to some folks. I have nothing wrong with him being homosexual. I'm completely fine with it. I'm just saying that some people would not be comfortable with it. This is being proven throughout all the debate and discussion of the matter. Personally, I don't see what's the big deal.

Imo the people who truly loved the books to be obsessed with the characters, wouldn't care about his sexuality, nor would it be major to them.
