Okay, a while back I wanted a new computer, Alienware. But, I decided that'd be much cheaper to just upgrade my current. What I found out is, I don't even have a graphics card.XD And, I want more RAM. But the problem is my motherboard only has two slots for RAM sticks and I was wondering if RAM sticks came in anything higher than 256 MB per stick. Probably not. Anyway, I need somebody to help me find the information on my computer that will tell me what I need to figure out which RAM sticks and video cards will work with my motherboard. I don't want to get rid of my motherboard because it's a 2.8 Ghz processor, and that's not bad at all. Sorry if my post was all over the place, I'm starving and wanna go eat.

Ram comes in up to 2 GB sticks, but around 1 GB is more advisable. What is the FSB on your processor? It is pointless to get RAM that runs at sppeds much higher than your FSB, as they will be limited to that. What slots do you have for the vid card? AGP, PCI, or PCIe? |

When you enter "My Computer", there will be a link located somewhere nearby which reads "View System Information". Go ahead and click that and you'll see a tab named "Hardware". Once you've clicked on that, you see a few choices; one of which is "Device Manager". That is where you can see all the hardware information for your particular computer. Like Feignt said, RAM sticks come in sizes ranging from 256mb to 2gb. I have a 1gb stick as well as a 512gb or half gig stick in my RAM slots. It does fine for me. As for a graphics card, I recomend getting at least getting a 512mb card, preferably ATI Radeon brand. |

Not to be any offense, but a 512mb gfx card does not have much of an advantage over a card that has, say, 256mb (when it comes to games) turns out most gfx cards cant use all of 512, but that's another discussion. Most likely (i'm guessing your mobo is a little odler) you will be able to use an AGP gfx interface. But check your mobo if it can take PCI as it will be faster |
