I have a 30gig black video and a couple of days ago it developed some black lines through the screen, but only when the backlight is on. When the light goes off, the lines disappear. I usually handle my ipod very careful but it is about a year old. Is there any way to fix this?

looks like a minor scratch, sometimes it's weird and you con only see it with the backlight on.try shining a light on it and seeing if there's a light scratch. Same happened with mine, some are visible, others are not.

I think he is saying that the lines are on the LCD.

Nah dude, the lines are ONLY on when the light is on, when it goes off, nothing is there, I've looked very carefully.

It all depends on the composition of the backlight itself. I'm pretty certain that it doesn't use bulbs but it may use something to that effect Most of the smaller "micro-technology" these days are based with chemicals which can be hassle if they mi or react with something. I'd say your best bet is contacting Apple and looking through support files.

But how sure are you? like I said, scratches can sometimes be virtually invisible, but blantly obvious once the LCD is on. Did you actually try putting it up to really bright light to see it? because I've seen scratches like that before, and from the picture you provided, the iPod it's self seems pretty beat up with little scratches all along off the screen... sometimes lining up with the huge black things, and if the scratch lines up exactly like that every time, there is a good chance it could be scratched and you just can't see it

Perhaps they are like dead pixels. Something happened inside, not outside.

Reset the iPod, see what happens. Toggle hold on and off for 5 secs each, then hold down menu and center. Then wait till the apple logo pops up.

That's probably the best way to describe it. It looks like the screen got somehow damaged inside the screen and screwed with the pixels of it.

That was my first guess but when I asked my friends they were like no dude your retarted what are you talking about so I just put it off.

Edit: Oh, and reset didn't work.

That's not a scratch. Whoever said its a scratch isn't very smart. My money is on the dead pixels. It can happen, really you have to contact apple and get a replacement.

Well the thing is I don't have warranty anymore cause it was only 1 year warranty and it's been over a year.

Hm, well I don't know of anything else that it could be. It doesn't look like a scratch anyways. I once had the same issue, and I pressed on the screen a little and it began to work again. O.o But who knows... Most likely it is dead pixels. Things happen without knowing it and plus it has been over a year.

I guess. I'll just get an ipod touch.
