Does anyone here have Vista? I'm thinking of upgrading my computer from Windows XP to Vista. Can anyone share there thoughts about Vista? Like it, or dislike it?

I Just have one question?

Can I just purchase the upgrade version of Vista (Home Basic/Premium) instead of the full version if I already have Windows XP and my computer came "Vista-Ready"?

Or do I have to spend an extra 100$ for the full version instead of the upgrade.

Oh, sorry and another question:

if I do upgrade my computer to Vista - does it terminate all my data? Or am I able to keep my files and stuff?

Thanks.

As long as your computer is ready for Vista, you don't need to use the full version. Installing it is like reformatting an OS, so it's sort of like a blessing in disguise. If you have any hidden viruses, they'll be eliminated. I hope this helps.

I downgraded back, Vista is very handy and pretty but it is a HUGE resource hog, and with 2 gigs of RAM I need all the resources I can get. :P

Strange, I can run Vista and Photoshop while listening to music and talking to friends, all under 1 gig of RAM...

But yes, it is a huge resource hog, 20 gigs to install, not worth the "upgrades" in my eyes. Just stick with XP for a while, until they release some service packs for Vista.

I wouldn't suggest upgrading to Vista if you've grown comfortable with XP or 2000. I bought a laptop recently and all the computers they were selling acme with Vista. The Microsoft Office it comes with is 2007 version which is way different and more complicated than the older (97-03) versions. The start menu is different... the way folders are organized is different... It took me like a week to get used to it. I don't know... I've heard a lot of bad things about it. I don't mind it, it's done me justice so far, but I do miss XP. :(

(Except for Vista has a Chess game on it! )

Yeah, I love the appearance of Vista. And the resource hog part doesn't really matter.

I have 250GB of Space, and 2GB RAM. So, I'm guessing that'll be enough?

I'm getting Vista and my laptop is vista-ready, i just hope the list of programs i can use isn't too short.. and i hope Vista isn't too much for my comp. i have around 1 gb ram, but thinking about upgrading to 2 gb ram in order to run vista as i'm a visual freak and want everything to look awesome :D

EDIT: But seriously, 20 gb of space needed? o_O.. insane.. my laptop only have like 60..

My Desktop has - 250GB of Space, so I'm good :)
and, 2GB of RAM. I bought it like, last year. So its Vista-Ready.

I'm just wondering, does it terminate all old files and data?

if you upgrade your files won't be terminated, just be sure you start intallation inside of windows. in some cases it is better to just do a fresh install of vista because it looks better IMO. Gives you that new computer sense that i like. Now onto what i think of vista.

I have had Vista for about 3 months and i absolutely love it. I built my very own mid-range computer with 2GB of RAM, 8800GTS, Core 2 Duo, 20" Monitor and never looked back. It run great on this system, never seen it freeze or so much as lag. Firing up Halo 2 takes about 3 seconds and i dont lag when im playing (unless its network lag). I would say go for it especially because you have 2 Gigs of RAM

just curious though, what graphics card do you have?

On my harddrive says:

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3000

Is that alright?

Anyways, its not really for gaming really.

So, what you're saying is don't get the update, get the full version?

You won't get much out of the graphical side of Vista (the bells and whistles) from using integrated graphics. I tried Vista for awhile but then reverted back to XP :).

Vista's outsides are pretty, but the same can't be said for its insides.

At LEAST wait until the first service pack comes out.
