Ok I bought a laptop on Black Friday and I want to Uninstall vista and install XP on it because it only came with one gig. But I have a couple question to ask first.

since it is a laptop and if I uninstall Vista will the battery life still show in the bottom corner or is their a certain folder that I have to save for that. Also it came with a built in web cam and how abouts would I still be able to keep that?

You need to make sure you have drivers that are compatable with XP. If there arent any, not only will you not see the battery icon, but features such as wi-fi and sound won't work at all.

Installing XP on a Vista-preinstalled laptop is tricky; due to some manufacturers only releasing Vista drivers and not XP.

Look for the XP drivers for your machine before anything.

Your model number is more then A205. It's more like A205S[Prohibited Content]X or something like that.

It says Satellite A205-S4707.

But on the Toshiba site their is no A205 in the drivers.

There were a lot of drivers that were labeled 'for Windows XP', not exclusively for Vista.

And Vulcan's right - be sure you've got the drivers for your laptop to run on XP. When you've got it all lined up is when you start thinking about downgrading.

I'm in the same boat as you, but just can't be bothered to downgrade..XD

Tbh, I've had Vista on here for a while and like I've had no problems with laging at all.. If you want to, you could always go for the classic theme to save some system resources? :D

I have to agree with Roi...

I picked up a new laptop about a month or so ago and it had Vista on it... I thought long and hard about putting XP Pro on it because of all the "bad things" I've been hearing about Vista but in the long run it's working fine with no major lags.

I'd say work with it for a while and I'm sure you'll be ok with running Vista over XP.... besides, why do you want to use a software platform which is 5 or so years old on a brand new computer. Keep it on the cutting edge.

RAM is dirt cheap as well. I think the time you spend trying to downgrade would equal the small amount of money to get another gig of RAM.

I have 1gig of RAM and have never had lagging issues, I don't think Vista is as bad as some make it out to be. I mean for everyday use of course, I am not a programmer that purposely goes looking for faults and bugs.
