Try this.

Thanks but none of those drivers say that it can me downgraded to XP.

Please don't tell me I have to be stuck with vista on it. :'( :'(

There were a lot of drivers that were labeled 'for Windows XP', not exclusively for Vista.

And Vulcan's right - be sure you've got the drivers for your laptop to run on XP. When you've got it all lined up is when you start thinking about downgrading.

But all of the sound drivers were labeled vista.

well if you cant find the drivers and cant stand Vista think about trying Ubuntu or another linux distro.

Okay I have heard of Ubuntu before but to be totally honest I have not a clue how to install it. Before I think about installing it does it run all the programs compatible with xp.
Such as

  • Aim
  • Bit Lord.
  • Firefox
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Winamp
  • Skype
  • Limewire
"Just to name a few"

Sorry for asking sooo many questions and thanks people for your patience with me.

Mostly no... Ubuntu is LINUX which is in no way shape or form the same as any window product. It's a totally different operating system. What works on Window's based computers usually don't work on Linux systems... unless the software provider makes a linux version.

From your list, the only one I know for sure for Linux is Firefox.

There is something called WINE that can be implemented in linux to use some, and I mean some, programs meant for windows. Photoshop does not work, at least not very well, within WINE.

I think you'll find that 1 gig of RAM is enough to do Photoshop work, listen to music and chat with friends at the same time under Vista, I have had no issues so far.

actually most of those work. if not there are some pretty darn close things

aim u can use preinstalled pidgin which works fine
bitlord i dont know but there are many other bittorrent clients to use
firefox works
i saw a tutorial somewhere to run photoshop on linux. search google but it does have gimp
winamp probably no but you could use wine for that or one of the preinstalled apps which work good
there is a linux version of limewire so that will also work

good luck

try sticking with vista though, im on it and its rocking so far
