I'm running on Vista, and for the past two months I've been having this problem that Windows Explorer keeps crashing whenever I open my Documents (which in Vista is given my name) but it doesn't crash otherwise when I open other files. I tried opening in safe mode, but the problem persisted. I tried a virus scan, and I tried System Restore but nothings going for me. Any help, I really don't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling Vista! :(

Sounds similar to the XP problem where explorer would crash and reboot promptly when control panel is opened. Re-installing internet explorer fixed the problem for me on XP twice. (happened twice on same comp).

You *might* have a similar result on vista.

Well theres one thing I am kinda confused about, how does reinstalling IE help this? I've seen a few people suggesting that re-installing IE will fix the problem but I fail to understand why?

Additional Details: Whenver I open it then a message comes "Windows Explorer is Not Responding" and then it hangs. When I press cancel then it say "Windows Explorer is Restarting" but instead it closes.

Vista Sucks! :'(

I think reinstalling internet explorer worked, because it never was a problem with windows explorer. I think it was an IE problem for me because control panel, essentially uses IE. (For example if you would type something into the address bar while in CP or My Docs, such as google, it would be internet explorer).

However, your problem is a bit different from the one I had, as yours is on vista with my docs. Also, explorer quickly restarts itself after it crashes when that happens on XP.

Same thing keeps happening to me, and the display driver frequently dies and then kicks back in.

It's a small hassle at the most.

Would be nice to have a fix, but this is Vista for you. Probably nothing you can do until the Service Pack comes out and hope they catch the bug.

Basically, do you still have your XP? I've already downgraded till the service pack comes out.
