![]() SZ's Battle of the Bands Welcome to the SZ's Battle of the Bands! The goal by the end of these 26 threads is to have compiled a list of the 26 best bands, according to our members. Each thread will focus on one and only one letter (hence, 26 threads for the 26 letters of the alphabet) and last one week. Each member is allowed to post one, and only one nomination for a band that begins with that letter. At the end of the thread, all the nominations will be tallied up to see which band has the most. In the event of a tie, both bands will be considered the best of that letter. A running list will be kept in the opening post of each thread of the selected bands. Rules

XD Well, my nomination is going towards Dream Theater. Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band comprising James LaBrie, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, John Myung, and Mike Portnoy. The band is well known for the technical proficiency of its instrumentalists, who have won many awards from music instruction magazines. Dream Theater's members have collaborated with many other notable musicians. Guitarist John Petrucci was named as the third player on the G3 tour six times, more than any other invited guitarist, following in the footsteps of Eric Johnson, Robert Fripp, and Yngwie Malmsteen. XD DriveShaft, Yknow from Lost? They got one song, but it's still AWESOME! If that doesn't count cause it's a fictional band, then Death Cab for Cutie is pretty rad. DriveShaft link to song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pCnfbiQBfI Lyrics: http://www.chordie.com/allsongsartists.php...haft/index.html Death Cab for Cutie link to "I will follow you into the dark": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNIS0cuDOMw Lyrics: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/deathcabfor...ntothedark.html |

I'll vote for Dream Theater, I've not got any of their songs, but I've always liked them, Octavarium is a good album, Death Cab For Cutie and Death From Above 1979 come close, but I think Dream Theater deserve it. |

I have debated much over whether to fourth the nomination for Dream Theater or get one in for Death Cab. I guess I'll go with Death Cab for Cutie though. I have been listening to them more than Dream Theater lately. Death Cab for Cutie are an American indie rock band that was formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. Although I am not entirely liking the direction they are heading in (toward mainstream pop) most of their music is amazing. If you get a chance, listen to Brothers on a Hotel Bed. |

Linkin Park. Too much win. But people will probably focus too much on their latest cd. |

Dream Theater, no question. Even if you don't like them personally, they're a huge influence on Progressive anything. Favorite band of all-time. |

I would like to third(?) the Death Cab for Cutie nomination, even if (like Feignt) I'm not as into them as I was six or so months ago. Transatlanticism would probably be my personal favorite, but I'm not really in the best position to judge given the fact that I'm not familiar with their entire discography. |

Dream Theater is good and obviously very influential, but I just can't get into them that much. I love Jordan Rudess' keyboard shredding though. ![]() My vote goes for Dragonland. Their first two albums went well with the name of the band (cheesy, fantasy-based power metal) but their most recent album is a pinnacle of symphonic metal. Most symphonic metal has got wimpy riffs in the background, but this album (called Astronomy) is about as heavy as symphonic power metal gets. *Edit* I think some non-metalheads should get involved with these topics...at this rate I think metal bands are going to make up a good portion of this list.
