The Dresden Dolls, a piano punk band from Massachusetts.
Why? Because their music has such variety. It's unique, with great emotion, instruments, everything. Listen to "Girl Anachronism", "Shores of California" or "Coin-Operated Boy" if you want their best.

The Devil Wears Prada
They're an amazing Christian metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio. They combine metal and melodic sounds.

To those people that think this is all dominated by metal: Only 1 out of the 3 bands so far has been metal.  I guess Dream Theater is technically metal, but it's a whole different genre.

Arcturus is far more progressive than Dream Theater. You can't really call Sideshow Symphonies metal and not be confused. So technically, none of them are (purely) metal. :P

@ SyringeX - You magnificent *******.

I am confused by such a statement

Death from Above 1979

Even though they are no longer performing together, the band was amazing for only 2 people and had its music appreciated all over the globe.

I'll nominate Dire Straits. Awesome band with complex arrangements and the best guitarist ever as far as my opinion is concerned: Mark Knopfler

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dire_Straits

I can't believe they didn't come to mind for me.

I still stick by Death Cab, but Dire Straits is a fantastic band. Just fantastic. I applaud your nomination. ^_^

I nominate Dawn of Ashes. Listen to "Still Born Defect" and "Portrait Of Homicide".

[picture]

It's time we get some harsh ebm in here. :P

That's a creepy picture haha. They could probably be in a Saw movie or something.

Huh? The average rap artist looks scarier. :P

Death Cab for Cutie are an American indie rock band that was formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997.

Although I am not entirely liking the direction they are heading in (toward mainstream pop) most of their music is amazing. If you get a chance, listen to Brothers on a Hotel Bed.

I'm going with Deathcab too.

Along with Brothers on a Hotel Bed, look up Why You'd Want To Live Here and Marching Bands of Manhattan ^_^
