Lately, it seems that there's a trend toward big and oversized maintitle/h2. And maintitle/h2 are not the same size as before; it's getting bigger by the days. What do you think contributed to this trend? Did vBulletin help contributes to this trend since vBulletin is pretty well known for their oversized maintitle? AND, are you in favor of this trend or prefer the old small maintitle style?

I don't know who started it first. Sith Lord perhaps? I don't really like it and I like smaller Maintitles better. They seem to have the best designs on them IMO.

It doesn't matter to me (coming from the visual standpoint, not a creator's standpoint) what size they are. There isn't an official size for maintitles. It really depends on what the designer wants to design. I thought the IFSZ current .maintitle was pretty big when I first saw it. I'm used to it now, and anything smaller would look out of place in my opinion.

I dislike small, narrow (thin horizontally) maintitles. I like "roomy" ones. :P

If you take a look at the maintitle s-k made in his manga pad print, which he submitted to the maintitle contest. That's huge, but it's exactly the style I like :) .

Different trends come and go. I generally skin something that i think people will like but try out some new stuff. At the moment there seems to be more interest in fatter maintitles, maybe because Zetaboards but I'm not really sure. ^_^

I didn't see a huge change in the mt/h2 until people started skinning zetaboards and people adjusted to fit the default text size. Before zetaboards I noticed mts got smaller as people realized they could change the text size but people are still getting accustomed to ZB

I agree that when ZB started, there were bigger h2s. Then, I believe that the trend started and converted over to IF as well. I think you can make them look tidy if you want, but if you screw it up, it's like when somebody overglosses - it just looks plain horrible.

The oversized look definitely extends further back than Sith. :P I remember designing a skin back in early 2004 that had what was considered an oversized maintitle.

I think recently it's been influenced by Web 2.0 and typography. We went through a period where everything was micro-sized, but now usability is the model. But of course, some people want to go to the other end of that spectrum and run with large sizes.

As for my preferences, it depends on the design. There is a time and place for it, I think. Certainly something for any designer to play around with though.

I think it depends on the skin. I've seen some that just look fat and ugly, but I've also seen some that look sleek and it really fits in with the theme.

I quite like them though, but that's just my style I suppose. ^_^

I have not been on InvisionFree many years, but I have noticed drastic changes in the MT's. Many have become much larger and bulkier looking. Due to my lack of time on InvisionFree, I am not sure what make this happen, but I am sure it had to do with inspiration and then someone else getting the idea.

As Locke had said, there is a time and place for the over-sized MT. Some skins look great with over-sized MT, but there are many that do not.

The InvisionFree Skin Zone looks great with the big MT. The MT is roomy and is not busy like many over-sized ones are.

There is a skin I do not like with the over-sized MT; the old Hireem skin. I know Tue made the skin, but I am not a fan of it. I am a major fan of Tue's work, but I do not like this one. Tue has made many skins for the forum I am Administrator on and they are all appealing. Except the Hireem old skin. The colors of the skin were not right for an over-sized MT.

When you think about it, the IFSZ maintitle isn't really that big.

I've been noticing the same thing lately. I noticed the huge mt by Sakaragi-Kun in one of the battles. By coincidence, I had been working on something quite similar. I think it looks awesome.

Something rather large like the Skin Zone one is fine by me, in fact, is pretty common now. However, anything that is too large and has no real reason for being so big is not fine by my book.

What old Hireem skin? I only remember making 2 larger than normal maintitle: 1. First Impression skin for Lewis and Friction Evolved skin. Perhaps refresh my memory? :hmm:
When you guys talk about IFSZ, you're talking about the skin before this one? Because the current one is not big at all.

I was actually thinking of that when you created the topic. :P As long as it looks good and is usable, who cares what size the maintitles are.
