Lately, it seems that there's a trend toward big and oversized maintitle/h2. And maintitle/h2 are not the same size as before; it's getting bigger by the days. What do you think contributed to this trend? Did vBulletin help contributes to this trend since vBulletin is pretty well known for their oversized maintitle? AND, are you in favor of this trend or prefer the old small maintitle style?

The oversized look definitely extends further back than Sith. :P I remember designing a skin back in early 2004 that had what was considered an oversized maintitle.

I think recently it's been influenced by Web 2.0 and typography. We went through a period where everything was micro-sized, but now usability is the model. But of course, some people want to go to the other end of that spectrum and run with large sizes.

As for my preferences, it depends on the design. There is a time and place for it, I think. Certainly something for any designer to play around with though.

The thing is Locke siths skins are good your skins are not. And siths skins are popular.

I think I agree with Locke. There's a new generation now that favors a large, clean, and more user friendly look.

I personally don't really care. If it works and looks nice, then it's great. If that includes a large maintitle/h2, so be it. If that includes a small one, nice. Obviously, it should be reasonable, but within consideration, anything that contributes positively to a design is a good thing.

I think that it all started when people realized there aren't any rules to skins, and someone went wild on their skin, then another followed, and thus, we are here today, to me, any maintitle seems right, just as-long as it matches the whole skin, :)
