Well, I've been skinning long enough to see quite a few shifts in what's considered to be 'quality skinning'. For instance, before I left, the style was gaudy pen tooled maintitles and huge tableborders that expanded the board to no end. Before that, it was usability. For example, that was around the time that all the three piece scripts were coming out. To be honest, I preferred that fad to the others. Anyway. Since I've been back and skinning again, I've noticed that the a shift has happened that I am very happy with. I am seeing less and less "This skin is viewed better in FireFox" and more "Currently compatable with: FF, IE, NS, and Oprah." Basically, usability for more people is becoming more popular. For me, once being one of those haters of IE, refusing to skin it, I really appreciate this shift, as it draws artists back to the real reason they do art; the people they're doing it for. (And, of course, themselves. But I'm feeling selfish today so let's leave that out. )Thoughts? |

I agree, although they should have "Best viewed in Whatever" rather than "Only compatible in.." Mainly because it still works perfectly, just better quality in Firefox. I don't think I explained that quite well.. But 1 thing I should point out that made me laugh... It is Opera, not Oprah... xP |

That's about the third time I've typed that. Oh well, everyone already knows I'm crazy. |

I don't really see that shift, really. I'm seeing more and more skinners put "Skin best view in FireFox" on their skin. A skin that only looks good in FireFox is not a good usable skin. Personally, I think skinners that said "get FireFox" when a member points out the flaw in IE or other browser should be ashame of themselves for being lazy and ignorant. |

I do agree with that to some extent, but some things are hard to figure out how to fix. Therefore you get tired of working on one part of the skin because you did for like an hour and couldn't figure out. I'm patient though so I still try to figure out the issue until I get it right. Some people are too impatient at skinning and want it done right then to worry about IE. I personally think it's a good thing that they're making it browser compatible with more than just FF. It also points out the fact that they're becoming more professional with their work and thinking more of the people. It also shows you're patient and a good skinner. |

^ Perhaps I should be more specific. I was referring to easy problem like adjusting the alignment to corner border or custom submenu image. The easiest way to fix that is to add display:block yet some skinners refuse to make such changes. Of course, a lot of problems can't be fixed because it requires more advance coding/modification. It's a shame that some skinner chose not to go the extra mile to make the skin more friendly to people that used IE or other incompatible browsers such as fixing problem that takes 1 or 2 minutes to fix. |

The extra mile. ![]()
I've always tried to make stuff as browser compatible as possible. |

I agree. And to top it, some people actually think it's "cool" to make a skin only viweable in FireFox. Which I do not understand in the least. Sith, what does that code do? I've never seen it before, but it interests me. :o |

How would it be "cool" to only view a website in Firefox? That makes no sense, and it's like browser racism (sounds funny, but wasn't meant to be really). That would be like only having one type of skin color for friends and saying it's cool. Besides the fact that happened back in the day... that's not the point. This is exactly why it's a good thing more and more skinners are coming around to make them cross browser compatible. I always double check that it works in Firefox and Internet Explorer. |

They were just some browser bug fixes for use with the ZB 3-part h2 script. |

I agree with Tue. People haven't exactly been moving towards cross-browser compatibility, I've actually seen more and more skins that are best viewed in a specific browser. ![]() I also agree that people who don't fix those errors are lazy, considering it's usually fairly easy to fix. Maybe a few lines of CSS maximum, it just takes a few minutes to fix it and move on. |

My opinion is mainly coming from professional skinners and not new people, as they will always tend to take the easy road. In addition to that of course, are more and more codes that allow compatibility. In all, I think it's just becoming a lot easier and more possible. |

Im glad that alot of the newer skins out are good in all browsers and not just FF. I use FF alot, but sometimes I have no choice to use IE. Like at my parents. |
