Hardly, I've been exposed to violence and fighting in media and video games since I was 3 or 4, and have never plotted to kill one of my teachers. I do however agree that it's the parent's fault, as it's their job to teach the children that what they see on movies and in video games isn't real, it's merely fantasy and shouldn't be practiced in real life. When the children learn that, that's when they can take what they hear and see in the media with a pinch of salt. In my opinion, this is a reason as to why the 'lets ignore the wrong doers, and praise those that are doing well' approach doesn't work. If the kids who are misbehaving never got told off, then they're going to think it's okay. Discipline needs to be resurrected, because it seems that it's not present in education today, and I think it's a lack of discipline and being told what's right and what's wrong that has caused these kids to do this. |

Personally, I think there's more to the story. Maybe the teacher was quite abusive but I guess we won't find out. If it's not that and they planned to kill him because of a time-out then what the hell has happened? I think they've all been playing too many violent games like GTA. I know, here I go blaming games but it COULD be the problem. Too many things to think about really, it could be anything and I don't want to be a nag so I'll shut up now.

I'm worried about the future of the world. A thing like this would never have even crossed my mind at that age (or any age) but especially so young. How on earth can they contemplate that? |

I agree. Video games don't make kids kill people despite what the over-reacting, assumption-making, over-bearing parents say. It is the parent's responsibility to raise their kids better than this. But not all of the blame should be put on the parents, no parent is so bad that they would let their kids do this. There were probably one or two ring leaders of the kids who came up with the idea and influenced the others into doing it. This is how things like the holocaust happen.

It's not really that shocking to me if my assumptions are close to the truth. I believe what most likely happened here was one child spawned the idea and roped other kids into it. I don't know if you remember, but 3rd grade is a year where everyone is still for the most part friends with everyone. Cliques don't really tend to begin until the year after. If there is one mentally ill or violent child that was already in a leadership-like role among the students, it's possible that everyone else agreed to follow along with the plan simply because the kid was the leader, and they may have felt threatened as well. I know in my old grade school, there was a child who starting in pre-school showed signs that he was sexually abusive, and I also know of a student who was violent from a very young age (kindergarten or earlier). I know in the case of the violent student that the child was powerful enough by third grade that multiple teachers had to restrain the child when they acted out. If the leader in this case (again, assuming their was one) was anything like the kid I know, he or she would have been able to make the other kids do anything, out of fear for their own well-being. Therefore, I believe it's hard to say who's fault exactly it was. It could've been the child "ring-leader"'s fault for threatening the other children, it could've been the teacher's fault for unfairly or improperly punishing students, or it could've been the parents fault for not properly educating their children about how to treat authorities. |

Anybody every thing the first graders didn't like their teacher? There are always the teachers with horrible tempers... and that is why I won't be a teacher. Again, trying to kill her, that is over the line... |

Doesn't matter. Their intent is enough. They'll get off with slaps to the wrist anyway. |

However, what I want to know is, where would these children have had the knowledge to do such a thing? You can all blame the media but I blame the parents on exposing them to such media. It's dreadful and it isn't like you can lock these kids up, they only copy what they see on the television and in video games.
