Normally, I would be like psh scam/hoax. But it has a check for almost 5 grand in it.

Yeah I'd check it out, but the minute they ask for personal information I'd ignore it.

my dad got one of these. He followed through with it but somewhere he lost interest and never got it. But that is basically the same message he got (except the date)

It's most likely a host. Nobody's gonna give you a check with that much money in it for free, especially via internet.

Odds are it's not for real. I would take it to a bank or something of the like and ask someone who is more knowledgeable in the field. There was a woman that had something like this and she brought it to the bank and they ended up catching some scam artist and she actually got some money I think.

Is the check actually a check with your name on it? If it has then I would go down to the bank to see if it was legit, if it is, cash it in. :P
