Extremely invasive advertisements

Hi,

I'm an admin at www.swiftysgarage.net, where we use the Zetaboards service and do not pay for ad removal. Over the past several months, something on our board has become increasingly more invasive. It causes pop-ups, redirects to pages that trigger warnings on our users' anti-malware software, and generally contributes to an increasingly terrible user experience. We have had multiple complaints about these issues and I myself have experienced them. Here is a recent thread on the issue: http://swiftysgarage.net/topic/9006069/1/

I suspect that the Zetaboards ads are causing these issues. They show up on pages with no user-generated content such as the active topics page. I suppose the only other possibility are the custom themes that we use. Has anyone else experienced such issues? Could I get some help figuring out exactly what is going on? I am a software developer so I am somewhat technical, but I have no web development experience and wouldn't know where to begin trying to track down the exact source of these issues.

Thanks,

jedimario

Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall.

Hi,

While we do our best to ensure invasive ads are not used, our ad provider sometimes shows ads that include these items. If you could please submit a support ticket from your board along with any information about where the ad most frequently occurs and what the ad might be, our management can work with the ad provider to remove the offending ad.

Thank You.

Just a note that these ads have flared up again recently. It's gotten to the point where we have multiple reports of people not being able to log in. Disabling Javascript seems to fix the problem. But we are working on a plan to pay for ad removal for logged in members and guests so hopefully it won't be an issue for long :)

We are aware of the most recent problems. Our developer is looking into removing the offending ads.
