I saw this on xenForo forums. It's called a user discouragement system. The idea is, to make discouraged users attempts to browse your forum so frustrating, that they give up and leave.

http://2312acf4bb633e83.demo-xenforo.com/1510/admin.php?options/list/discourager

What do you think?
Ahhhh, dont think the link will work, because I made a demo board. Blast. Here is the link to make a demo board then you can see what I mean.

[link removed]
There are also a LOT of features of jcink I like. Could any be added?

[link removed. You can list the features you are interested in but you can't post links to competing services. //Helena]

I remember it, and while it was funny to read it, I don't think something like this should ever be made to ZetaBoards. If You don't like someone, ban them. People might hate You more if You will try to use this system on someone than if You would just ban them. Plus, I don't think You ever would want to experience this Yourself.

For those that don't wish to create a board: this is the feature explanation:

Quote:

User Discouragement

The user discouragement feature subjects users to random errors, delays, and pages, simulating failures in the system behavior, with the ultimate aim of making them eventually leave the site.

I can imagine all kinds of scenarios where this would be abused.

Fair enough Nemo. What about the jcink features then?

In what way would it be abused Helena?

Helena, the link You provided doesn't work.

The jcink features of course are nice, but the question also is how many of them will You really use? But yeah, having them would not hurt. Surely having a possibility to edit templates would be loved by everyone (but Staff here ;)).

I gave you a quote instead, Nemo.

@sugarpuff: Well, its a rather juvenile tactic, and not every forum administrator would be able to resist the urge to mess with their members (or other staff). So I see the possiblity of abuse there.

And its just cowardly to surreptitiously try to get someone to quit. Just ban them and take the heat.

I would use a LOT of the jcink features Nemo. Some of them are really good.

Fair point Helena, didnt think of it like that.

Ok...so forget xenForo then....is there any chance of some of the jcink features being added at some point in the future?

While it's an interesting idea, I don't think a discouragement feature (aside from the warning and banning options already available) fits well with the ZetaBoards platform.

Simulating server-side errors doesn't seem like an acceptable approach to dealing with an unruly user; the board itself should continue to function as normal.

Brandon has been on the prowl for new feature ideas, though. I think continued input from the community on that front is a great thing. :geek:

Proboards' templates editor would really be welcome. Board admins that only know basic HTML and CSS would still be able to edit whatever they want on their board, its every single element. They wouldn't need to use jQuery (they probably don't know anyway) to add/remove/alter elements and/or to add classes/IDs to elements that currently don't have a separaye class/ID to style them. And in case some inexperienced admins broke their board, Brandon could add a "restore to default" button. That would ne enough.

That would be nice. Even just some pages where the large CSS file is split into relevant chunks for easier editing would be nice. And then staff and members here could potentially help decide how to split up the code for Brandon if it's quicker.

I would rather want templates of all pages available. Because if Brandon will do just some pages, he probably will never again return to it, and we will be left with yet another half baked feature (like post edits). For this reason I think it would be better if we got all pages at once

The proboards plugin/theme installation thing would be good but I don't know if it would be do-able as the softwares are different. I was on that provider for a long time; some good features but the staff aren't the nicest bunch.

I agree with this and a few of us have made a push for similar functionality. While we haven't gotten a glimpse of any of the changes quite yet, I do believe Brandon has made progress with it. It sounds like a nice improvement.

We did have theme installation temporarily with the Resource Database feature, but that has unfortunately been broken for a while and never really reached its true potential. I wouldn't mind seeing a plugin or theme section available in the Admin CP, but that would take some effort with modifications in particular. For instance, ProBoards essentially has "settings" options baked in for each code, which are essentially hard-coded into our modifications over here.

What else would you all like to see? What would make your ZetaBoards experience better or help modernize the software? Additional spam protection is already on the list.

A quick edit would be good. It's basically like quick reply but for editing. It saves going to the full edit screen when the edit is only minor like a spelling mistake.
