Hi, all, I would like to ask for some guidance in customising the [table][c][/table] BB code tags. I continually get requests from board members who dislike the way the widths of tables & cells are determined, forcing them to use 'invisible' spacer images or flash links to display content the way they want (and often looks terrible when viewed on mobile etc., as setting a static width that way obviously doesn't scale with window size). Is there a way to add an optional component to these tags to define the width of a cell/table? For example, a way to make the following table have cells of an equal width:
I'm looking to add a width component to these tags, instead of just changing the way the [table] tag is displayed itself, so that the formatting of existing tables does not change. Our forum has been active for many years, so I want to avoid changing anything that would have an affect old, pre-existing post content. By adding an optional 'width' element to the [table] tag, I'd like users to be able to - if they choose - control the width (in percentages) of the tables & cells they create. If no width is specified, I'd like tables to continue behaving as before. Alternatively, I'm open to introducing a new/alternative table tag, if there is anything pre-existing that can incorporate this function? Any help or recommendations would be really appreciated, thanks! I don't seem to have the permissions to create topics in the 'coding request' forum, so I hope this area will be close enough... |
