The Survey 1. Do you, or do you not play video games? What is the motivation? Sometimes, just for fun when I'm bored :/ 2. Do you play violent video games? Can you name a few? The occassional. GTA, Kutenko, Morrowind (not really violent but I assume anything with death in it is considered violent ) 3. Are you aware of the ESRB rating of the games? Do you honour it? I'm legally old enough to play anything I want i.e. ratings cannot affect me due to my age ![]() 4. If you play violent video games, what motivates you to play them? Can you describe your feelings or emotions while your playing them? Motivation? Hmm, fun I guess. In the case of GTA, it just sometimes happens to be there. Kutenko is an old fave of mine so I guess I play it because of memories, and it's fun ^_^. Morrowind, well a fave book and a brill game with fabulous stories, characterisation and freeplay. I never feel anything during play, never get angry, etc. 5. [If applicable] Do you feel that you have grown more violent or less violent since playing violent game(s)? Neither. They have no affect on me, I play for fun and that's it. They're fun. 6. Do you believe that violent video games affect the actions of the player in real life. They can, but only in the case of people who already have a mental imbalance or problem. I knew someone who blamed the games on his raging behaviour but they discovered otherwise. I find it hard to believe that you can suddenly go from mr nice guy to killer from a game :/ 7. What, in your opinion, effect kids’ violent actions most? Upbringing, background, etc. You know, the real things in life that cause problems. 8. Do you believe that there is a connection between violent games and violent kids? Again, only with kids who have some sort of problem, whether they know about it or not. 9. Do you agree or disagree to the banning or strict control of violent video games? If yes, what would a good minimum age (to play violent games) be? Disagree I guess. Some things have been taken too far. I agree with certifcation but to ban a game is rather silly. 10. Any comments you would like to add concerning violent video games and violent kids? Nope. (=^_^=) |

The Survey 1. Do you, or do you not play video games? What is the motivation? Yes. Just for entertainment purposes, it's something to do on a rainy day. 2. Do you play violent video games? Can you name a few? Yes. All the Grand Theft Auto games, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, DOA, Warcraft, various RPGs and RTS games. 3. Are you aware of the ESRB rating of the games? Do you honour it? Yes. No. 4. If you play violent video games, what motivates you to play them? Can you describe your feelings or emotions while your playing them? They're entertaining. Just as sometimes I am in the mood to play mario or something, sometimes it's fun to play GTA. Feelings? Usually laughing and just having a good time with a friend, fighting each other or taking turns playing GTA. 5. [If applicable] Do you feel that you have grown more violent or less violent since playing violent game(s)? Niether. I've been playing GTA since it first came out and I have never considered myself a violent person nor have I been called violent by anyone I know. 6. Do you believe that violent video games affect the actions of the player in real life. Only those who are not taught that it is just a video game. It doesn't effect the majority of people, but there are the occasional few who can't handle it because they never learned how to deal with their emotions. I would even venture to say some people can use violent games to release anger and sometimes violent tendencies through an unrealistic game rather than taking it out in the real world. 7. What, in your opinion, effect kids’ violent actions most? How they are raised, cultural influences, the way they are treated by peers. 8. Do you believe that there is a connection between violent games and violent kids? Only in those who were not taught how to deal with their emotions properly. For the average person - No. 9. Do you agree or disagree to the banning or strict control of violent video games? If yes, what would a good minimum age (to play violent games) be? I think it's reasonable to put age limits on extremely violent/graphic games because it is a parent's choice to decide what they do or do not want their children playing until they're an adult. If the parent is ok with their child playing violent games, they can purchase the game for them, that is how it worked in my family and we're all alive and well. 10. Any comments you would like to add concerning violent video games and violent kids? People are just blaming video games because they don't want to blame themselves. Honestly, you hear about more violence in the news than in most video games and it's 100x worse because it's REAL. |

The Survey 1. Do you, or do you not play video games? What is the motivation? Do. Usually when I'm bored, when I'm waiting to do something else, or when I need to get some aggression out, like after getting home from work. 2. Do you play violent video games? Can you name a few? Yes. Quake, Counterstrike, Kitty Bash 3. Are you aware of the ESRB rating of the games? Do you honour it? Not really. Not really. 4. If you play violent video games, what motivates you to play them? Can you describe your feelings or emotions while your playing them? They're fun. Killing things, especially people or cute and cuddly animals, is much more satisfying in video games than in real life, and much less messy, both physically and legally. Hard to really describe the emotions, etc., as they vary widely. 5. [If applicable] Do you feel that you have grown more violent or less violent since playing violent game(s)? Less violent. 6. Do you believe that violent video games affect the actions of the player in real life. Only for the truly stupid or socially/emotionally maladjusted. 7. What, in your opinion, [affects] kids’ violent actions most? Countless things. This isn't a simple question with a simple answer. Every child is different and will react at least somewhat differently to the exact same stimuli and situations. At the heart of it, however, is parental neglect. A properly raised child, unless suffering from some mental health disorder, simply will not commit violent actions unnecessarily, whether against man or beast or him/herself, or even against plants and inanimate objects. And by "properly raised", I'm not talking about using the fear of God or law enforcement or anything else to coerce them into behaving appropriately, as that rarely has any true and lasting effect. There's plenty of evidence and general knowledge and even folklore to tell us what we're doing wrong and what we should be doing, but most people are too self-absorbed and too busy, too arrogant, or simply too misinformed or ignorant. Sadly, most people just don't care enough, though they'd like everyone to think they do, and they may have fooled themselves into thinking they do. But they likely spend more time washing their car than actually teaching their children anything of value or really getting to know them and their needs and desires, and chances are they spend more time watching TV each night than they do with their kids all week, which effectively shows where their cares lie. At least in America. But is this whole thing even a topic of interest anywhere outside America? Anyway, you get the point, hopefully. I think Ministry had some good words to say about it in their song "So What". 8. Do you believe that there is a connection between violent games and violent kids? No. Or at least, "Only for the truly stupid or socially/emotionally maladjusted". It's pretty much the exact same bullmullet they've said about violent cartoons going all the way back to the black and white ones in the 50's and earlier. The same thing they said about listening to heavy metal back in the 80's. If there's any connection at all, it's that poorly parented children are more likely to be violent regardless of any positive or negative environmental factors outside the family, and are inherently more likely to be attracted to violent video games, loud and agressive music, dark and disturbing art, and whatever else, because they're pissed off and thoroughly unsatisfied. 9. Do you agree or disagree to the banning or strict control of violent video games? If yes, what would a good minimum age (to play violent games) be? Nobody has the right to ban them, and I find it quite offensive that anyone would even consider it. Strict control? Define "strict". I don't believe in minimum ages, as age is not a valid measurement of maturity or emotional/social development. Parents, if anyone, should be the ones to decide what their child can read, watch, and play. I don't really have a problem with game makers describing what sort of content a game contains though, but there shouldn't be any governing body or rules that actually prevent somebody from purchasing or renting games or movies or anything else. Just guidelines, so parents can make more informed decisions. 10. Any comments you would like to add concerning violent video games and violent kids? I highly recommend that all children play video games, and at least occasionally, the more violent the better. It can be quite therapeutic. Perhaps include a sticker on each game suggesting, "Have fun. Don't be a dumbass." Definitely try Kitty Bash. It's one of the best games ever. |

Any comments you would like to add concerning violent video games and violent kids? yaeh parents need to start taking control and thinking about why their kids are behaving like this and not trying to blame everyone else for what they have done wrong. and dont buy these games for your kids and then whine when cause its violent and if they play them at a friends place take some responibilty and dont let them go there |

I am aware of the ESRB rating of games, I feel that so long as the person playing the game is mature enough even if they are under the age then it is fine. 4. If you play violent video games, what motivates you to play them? Can you describe your feelings or emotions while your playing them? Non applicable. 5. [If applicable] Do you feel that you have grown more violent or less violent since playing violent game(s)? Non applicable. 6. The Survey 1. Do you, or do you not play video games? What is the motivation? I play them sometimes when I have time, normally because I'm bored. 2. Do you play violent video games? Can you name a few? GTA, Battlefield Vietnam, I play them sometimes, but we only have rubbishy stuff like Rayman because my brother isn't allowed violent games 3. Are you aware of the ESRB rating of the games? Do you honour it? I'm aware of it, but I don't really honour it 4. If you play violent video games, what motivates you to play them? Can you describe your feelings or emotions while your playing them? They're just fun. There's something quite amusing about computer graphical things being splatted everywhere. 5. [If applicable] Do you feel that you have grown more violent or less violent since playing violent game(s)? Erm, neither. I don't think that they effect what I do when I'm not playing. I don't get stressed by them, and I don't think what I see on them is okay to do to real people in the real world. 6. Do you believe that violent video games affect the actions of the player in real life. Erm, I guess so, but only when there are other problems as well 7. What, in your opinion, effect kids’ violent actions most? Their background and upbringing 8. Do you believe that there is a connection between violent games and violent kids? Not really 9. Do you agree or disagree to the banning or strict control of violent video games? If yes, what would a good minimum age (to play violent games) be? I don't think like, toddlers should be able to play very violent games, but I don't think minimum ages are good, because all people's minds develop differently and at different speeds. Maybe if they just gave some sort of description of the content, and left parents to use their disgression. 10. Any comments you would like to add concerning violent video games and violent kids? No |

1. Do you, or do you not play video games? What is the motivation? Yes, they're fun. It gives you a break, when your tired of thinking about stuff, you just play a video game. 2. Do you play violent video games? Can you name a few? Yeah, Grand theft auto, Time Crisis, Manhunt etc... 3. Are you aware of the ESRB rating of the games? Do you honour it? Yes No 4. If you play violent video games, what motivates you to play them? Can you describe your feelings or emotions while your playing them? Honestly, I just look at them the same as I do with any other game. Something fun to do. To me it's the same as a racing game. 5. [If applicable] Do you feel that you have grown more violent or less violent since playing violent game(s)? Much, much less. 6. Do you believe that violent video games affect the actions of the player in real life. No 7. What, in your opinion, effect kids’ violent actions most? Them being crazy/their parents being crazy 8. Do you believe that there is a connection between violent games and violent kids? No 9. Do you agree or disagree to the banning or strict control of violent video games? If yes, what would a good minimum age (to play violent games) be? I disagree very heavily on it. It's so stupid that all these stuck up old people thing games actually effect our actions. I think they should all shut up. 10. Any comments you would like to add concerning violent video games and violent kids? They have nothing in common. Violent kids are violent because they're crazy, not because they play video games. If anything video games stop kids from being violent, because instead of going on a shooting rampage in real life, they can just do it in the game. |
