There's a review from Engadget.

ugh, i cant stand that.
its quite sad if someone judges a console or replay value of a game on graphics.
good graphics dont make me play a game over and over, good gameplay does.

...judging a game/console on graphics, stupid. graphics won't make a game good or bad, gameplay does

I beg to differ with the fact that graphics don't affect how good a game is. Graphics and gameplay play a major part in a game.

Anyways, back on topic, I don't know which is better.. The PSP has a super huge screen with good graphics, but I have heard about defects with it too. The DS is made by a company that knows what their doing with handheld gaming, but to me, two small screens is not as good as a huge screen, and the PSP is thinner (right?) and better looking. The black version of the DS looks better than the silver one, but will not look as sexy as the PSP. Also, the PSP has the ability to watch videos and play music.
So basically summed up:
PSP pros:

  • huge screen.
  • better graphics.
  • can play music and watch videos. looks good.
PSP cons:

  • defects.
  • low battery life.
DS pros:

  • two screens.
  • backwards compatible with other gameboy games (I think..).
  • touchscreen.
DS cons:

  • no ability to play video or music.
  • bulky.
  • silly looking.
  • so-so graphics.
  • two mini screens instead of one large one.

I'll prob get the PSP because the games i have seen that are coming out on it are some of my fave games. IE grand turismo and metal gear solid. i have never really liked nintendo game because most of them are aimed at kids ie mario.

I dont see the point in 2 screens because you can only look at on at a time and just means its more lickly to brake. and i would have thought having 2 screens will just drain the battery quicker.

defects is something every console has, so you should add that by the DS as well.

there will be better batteries released for the PSP, and i heard from multiple people that have the PSP that it aint a big problem either.
the fact that it plays movies(that must be bought on UMB >< and thus not playable on DVD players) is quite sucky as well, i would never buy an UMB video that i cannot play on a DVD player.

the ability to play films/music that the DS "misses" i simple, its a gaming handheld >< . and there's a device you can add to the DS(and GBA) wich makes you play video's and music that you downloaded using the Flashcard technology, thus free and easy. but i dont want that anyway, i'll watch films on my TV and my MP3 player is always 'round mu neck.

bulky, silly looking? c'mon, if that's a con for you than you're really trying to get everything to list some CONS -_- . besides, it holds very well and is durable enough. who cares that it might look silly, as long as it plays cool.

so-so graphics, that is true yes but it can display what it needs to display. DS is more for gameplay than graphics, same with the 2 screens. there's so much new things to do with the double/touchscreen that the PSP's slighty bigger cannot. if you want graphics over gamplay, so be it, than the DS wont be anything for you anyway, 'cause thats for innovative and gameplay, not bigger-better-faster like PSP.

well that was DS-fanboy-me. typing that ALMOST makes me not buy the PSP :P . but i will anyway ^^

I'm probably going to buy a PSP when it comes to the US (I don't want to pay $500+ to have it imported.) I'll be sure to write a review and post a bunch of images if someone hasn't already by then.

DS is much better. I hate Sony Computer Entertainment anyway, they got in the business only to kick the snot out of Nintendo.

Nah they probably got in the business for money, because that's sort of the purpose of being in business

Besides that if Nintendo is better then they'd have no worries about having the snot kicked out of them. I like nintendo and sony but am going for the psp.

sorry, i forgot it could play off card >< .

do you know that they said the sam kind of defects about the DS, Next-Gens and basicly ALL retro consoles as well? and do they all have the defects they said? nope, mostly is big mullet, so i wont bother to much about those PSP defects if i were you

as for the battery life, a friend of mine has the PSP, japanese import with some games. one being ridge racer.
he does agree on the fact that the loading times suck but we all know that its a matter of time before the games have lower loading times, just like it happens on the consoles.

BUT the battery life he said, is not that short. if you play it with full ligt then yes, it will drain the battery like mad, but you can easily see the stuff on the screen when the light is set low or even off. and that really makes the battery life longer.

AND there's the fact that you can also buy more batteries(yes that sucks but hey, you wanna play, right?) and simply put a full one in, that would make it 6 hours with 2 batteries.

'bou the DS backward compatibility, you can ONLY play SINGLE player GBA games, no multiplayer GBA, no GBC and older.

its no fanboy thing to say that sony has no exp on handheld sector, it's the truth, it's their very first handheld, but hey, even nintendo had to start with it one day ;)

Well PSP has low battery life. I hear four hours at the most. Nintendo DS has twice that minimum. So if you want long playing time then get the Nintendo DS. Plus Nintendo DS has wireless gaming features which Sony PSP does not have. Also not to mention the touch screen for DS.

get your facts straight.
sony is already working on new, better batteries. AND you can very easily switch batteries.

and the PSP has also wireless gaming, with way better range than the DS.

Plus the 4 hour thing I've only heard applied to movies, which DS doesn't do ;)

It varies for gameplay depending on how the game is made (makes sense).

Even the movie battery life changes depending on if you play it from disk or stick if I recall correctly.
